it's likely that the electric water pump has failed. Have had quite a few of the hybrids in lately for that reason. If the dealer is testing the electric water pump through the HDS it will most likely pass, but the impeller shaft is probably sticking at times causing the impeller to not turn at all.
the electric water pump on these are fairly easy to remove. pay them to remove it and check the shaft free-play. That will most likely solve your issue.

Could be two things; 1) first try the simplest fix and it is to change the thermostat (make sure you buy the correct one with the same temperature threshold) or 2) if the thermostat wasn't the problem, then it might be that your water pump is either in the process of failing or has failed, which regardless will require replacement.
