Default V1/ Other detector Users, whats your setup?

Thinking about picking up a valentine 1 for the holidays, was gonna see how you guys had them mounted in your ITR. Since we have no sunroofs and therefore no forward map light thingees, how hard is it to hardwire one of these puppies?

edit- hell any kind of ticket busting device, the brand is really inconsequential, i'm just trying to get ideas for mounting, preferably somewhat concealed

I have it mounted front and center of the windshield. For power I put a retractable (spring coil) phone cord under the dash up next to the clock. I cut a tiny amount of material off the edge of the dash that can't be seen, and a slot on the faceplate of the clock so the wire rund through. When I take it down to switch cars or park somehwere it just reels back into the dash and only the plug can be seen right next to the clock. I oughtta take pics sometime.

sack-who has pet peeves about radar det. mounting.

I hardwired mine with a coil cord down beside the glove box, and wired it in behind the cigarette lighter.

im lazy. I just pluged it in, then rolled up the extra material and pushed it under the cup holder. Doesnt look stealthy at all.

I ran my power wire from the fuse block upwards and under the A pillar cover, then across the driver's visor. I use the visor clip it came with...

I have mine on the windshield behind the mirror. I also have the remote display. I ran teh wire up into the headliner, down the passenger A-pillar and under the dash to the area behind the radio. Hardwired it into the cigarette lighter. Ran the cord for the remote display from that location up the steering column area to the instruments. This setup works great for me, it's nice having the display right where you normally look down anyways.

everyone I know that uses one swears by it. and think about it, the first time it saves your ***, it pays for itself, i'd rather pay $400 for a detector that is top of the line than thousands in tickets and insurance

Good plan. V1 rules.

In answer to your original post... I mount mine right below the rear-view and use the coil-cord down to the lighter - no stealth attempted. If I wasn't a bum, I'd wire power around the windshield and put an RJ-11 jack in the headliner right above the mirror and runa 6" jumper from that outlet to the V1 in lieu of the cig lighter.

...but I'm a bum.

V. - who hasn't even washed his car since... well, it's been a while.

I love my V1. It has saved me numerous times and its amazing how much warning you get with some forms of radar.

I have mine just mounted right in the middle of the windsheild. There are no state laws against them in WA, so I need not worry about getting a ticket.

If where you live there is nothing illegal with radar detectors, I wouldn't worry about stealthy setups. Put it right up in the middle of the windsheild where it works the best.

For the people with the unit on their gauge cluster, does your V1 pick up any 'laser' threats? I would have a hard time imagining how the laser beam can make it to the V1 without being totally diffracted.

what mode do you guys have it set on? I used to have it on the big L all of the time, but now I have it on the little L (except on long road trips). The little L mode seems to work the best even around town.

The Big L (advanced logic)normally. The logic filters are only for X band, and no cops anywhere near me, nor our state cops use x band. If I'm in unfamilliar territory on a road trip, 'A' LL Bogies baby.

I have mine hardwired....ran the wire up through the A pillar and into the headliner. Valentine1 is above the rear view mirror...so it looks out the very top of the windshield and rear window. I found that having it up high improves reception, you can't really see it when parked unless you know where to look....

Only problem was removing everything to get it wired up....worthwhile though.

Thanks for all the great info fellas

I'm thinking of a combination of that and Tomakit's clock idea, should work out decently.

clockwork,
how hard was it/long did it take you to run the wires? just curious

i have a question about this setup, isnt the mode selector on the remote display or can the one on the main unit still be used, and if not how do u select modes with it in the clock like that? i cant tell from the pic but is the **** accessible or is it behind the clock out of reach. Thank you.

I put mine in the center of the windshield just below the mirror (but detectors are legal where I live)
