Hello H-T members, it's been a long time since I've logged on, surprise I still remember my info. I've been browsing this site for a few days now and man, things have surely changed, it looks as though the site isn't as active as it used to be 24 years ago. Where is everyone posting at now? Are the 1/4 mile drag strips still a thing? What events are being hosted now a days and where can I find info on them? I tried googling but can't find anything in So Ca. Appreciate if someone can enlighten me or point me in the direction. I would like to attend a few of these events, meets, drags etc.. I'm thinking of picking up where I left off 20+ years ago and build a clean EG or EK. I don't plan on do anything crazy, just a normal, simple and clean, stock looking, B swapped (bar'd) hatch. I have 2 girls and my older one has been asking me about cars lately. I think it's something my daughter and I can work on together. I told her that back in my days, if you ran 12's on a street car, you're pretty dang fast. Heck, even an EG w/ a GSR was fast. Hoping I can find a clean, unmolested EG SI or EK hatch to start on.

people like us are a dying bread. I to stepped out of the car scene in my 20's and just recently got back into it. Been building a b18 non vtec (street car)
Most decent tracks have been closed. LACR in Palmdale closed year ago. as well as Fontana. only 1/4 mile left near socal is in Bakersfield. Not many speed shops around anymore, everything is bought online.

Bump though for any meets in or around Los Angeles.

 

Glad to see someone like minded, thought I was the only one. My wife tells me, you're and too old to be doing that. Your colleges are driving cars their age, Tesla's and BMW's, imagine you rolling up to work in a lowered civic with a fart can exhaust! , I got to agree with her though, the exhaust sounds I hear now a day is pretty annoying. I don't blame them, I used to be that kid too. And you're absolutely not wrong there, we are a dying breed. All my buddies who were into the scene with me back in those days calls me crazy that I'd want to come back to it, they say, "with the honda scene, you throw so much time and money into the car only to see it possibly get stolen, you're so afraid someone will jack your sh*t that you don't even want to drive it so it ends up being parked 99% of the time, and when you do drive it, you park it where you know you'll always have eyes on the car. You've gotten into the BMW scene, the lifted 4runner scene, you never have to worry about getting your car stolen or vandalized and you want to go back to that? You don't have to worry about cops pulling you over and sending you to the state ref, (unless you do it to yourself). Why would you want to put yourself back in that? Leave the honda street cars to the kids, if you want to build a honda, go full race, track car only". With that said, I'm still debating, build full blown drag strip car or a street B series swapped EG. If it's a streetcar it will be 95% all stock. If CA wasn't so strict on smog regulations, I'd build myself a street, K series AWD turbo.

After doing a bit more googling and going back to one of my old buddies shop (surprisingly he's still there) and seeing he's still modifying honda's, I got info that Palmdale closed long ago, Pomona no longer has events for imports, no more Friday night time trails. Closes track, as you mentioned is Bakersfield, which doesn't have much either. I do wonder though, is Sacramento speedway still open and hosting events?

Regarding meets, I know there's the big Eibach one this month on the 19th I believe in Lake Elsinore. Hope to see you around my brotha.. Have fun w/ that build and post some pic of it if you don't mind sharing.
