Default VERY hard decsion . i really need opinions

so im about to get my drivers license
and my sister got a nice em2? i think 02 civic 2dr ex. for 12000
and my parents said i could get any car for that price too
but then later on they said they dont wantto take a loan out for me

so i had my mind hooked on an eg basically. i thought it would be pretty cool
id have about 4000 dollars to go get an eg ...( i live in las vegas but would probably drive down to california bay area to pick it up) then drive it back to vegas.
then every couple months my dad would get me something for it.. first thing is an alarm...then my b18c1 gsr.

i told my mom and she kept thinking
this car is too old what if we cant drive it back to nevada cuz it might break down
i said hondas are basically the most reliable cars. blah blah blah
she said seh didnt know my dad didnt want to take a loan out for me

she said seh would take a loan out for me
so we dont have to deal with all that crap of swapping an engine and getting all this new stuff for such an old car

but for a year now ive been on honda-tech and hona-acura.net and have been focusing just on my eg that ive wanted

she said i can get a newer car now if i want around 10000 and i seen a 2000 gsr integra for 10 thousand and it looked perfect.
i love integras
but ive been hooked on egs fora year now so
i just cant decide

do you think
for my first car
i should get an integra? or maybe a prelude?
or should i go for the eg?

im obsessed with hondas
and in my opinion is my hardest decision in my life haha

its my car
and i will have this car probably till im out of college

go with what makes you happy but do some research
1. eg if you want speed bc its light
2 get the teg so you can allready have a b18 *depending on model*
3. or you can get a 96 ek or a 00 si which are nice
4. expletive new cars there all slow

3 years ago I got my 97 GSR for $6,700 with 70,000 miles on it. STOCK! Only becuase it was my neighbors it was a nice deal. I remember the day he got the car brand new.

If the engine didn't look this clean, I wouldn't have bought it.

I feel bad for people who spend 10k to 12k on an EM1 that just gets stolen anyways.

Yeah, I say find an EJ1 (93-95 Ex). Drop a B18c1 in there or even a B18b1 and that car is going to be plenty reliable for less than you would pay for a SI or GSR. That should entice your mom to let you get an EG/EJ. Its your first car too and there will be many more to come. Starting off with an EG/EJ is a good starting point.

You can find a nice, stock EG/EJ1 for $4k.

i love integras but the b series stuff are still expensive.i was hoping it go down since k is up but damn its still high.in my opinion the eg would be better due to the fact that d series are easy to tune and parts arent that expensive especially if youre new sohc is better to play around.unless you got plan for it like a swap...

thanks for the replies guys
still up for some more opinions

see the thing is
i know i can find a cheap eg
nto in vegas but my mom is willing to drive me down to califronia to get it
and i can drive it back
but shes scared that it will brake down on the way back its like a 6 hour trip back

shes still down to get the eg with me but shed rather me get a newer car because its more reliable

but if i do get an eg
im definately going b series
since ive started reading about hondas
alls ive heard is if your going b series the only way to do it is gsr b18c1
and ive never changed my mind since
i know theres cheaper engines
but iw ant a reliable engine

i also told her that the engine would probly be a 95 because of the whole obd1 issue.
she thinkst hat id still be gettin an old engine in my car

any imput guys?
it really helps
thanks

U can get a newer motor. You'd just have to change it to obd-1. If you don't want to deal with the codes all the time

Don't buy a 99-00 Civic Si (EM1) or an Integra GS-R. Both are prime targets for theft since they have DOHC VTEC engines.

Get a Civic or Integra, and get the swap done. Don't buy a car with the swap already done, because obviously the person before you has beat the **** out of it.

Get a 92-00 Civic (not Si), or 97-01 Integra (not GS-R or Type R)

ive had 2 integras already. the power options are nice. it sucks when u go down to all manual options leike i did in my 92 cx. it just depends. i paid 3800 for my hatch about 5 months ago and i love it. bgut with older cars u will always find small things wrong with it. where as newer cars u wont have as many issues. so it just depends. are u willing to start paying for **** when your mommy and daddy arent supporting u anymore?

hey andoxxviii

how come not an si from 92-00

im not into ek/em1's
theyre sick but not for me
im strictly with
92-95 hatch
or a newer integra or prelude

the only thing is i really thought the 92-95 si's were sick because it came withe veryyything
sunroof, side moldings, tachometer, all the extra crap

if i got a hatch like a cx or vx id need side moldingsi cant stand em without them

its just
i need a tachometer too
and the cx and vx i dont think come with them
and i have no experience in fixing a car or changing a gauge cluster or messing with an engine
so if i go to cali
i dont know what to look for to see if the engine is in okay condition...to get back to vegas
u know?

I'm confused.

For one, I've read this thread before. Same story. Sister, parents, car, blah blah.

And for two, four months ago you said you had a '93 Si hatch already and you wanted to know what kind of wheels to get. I can only assume then that you were dreaming of a car and wanted to mod it right away.

I don't want to plug any one car, but why go to Frisco for an EG when there are a ton in So Cal? 4 hour drive

(with a quick search)
http://www.hondamarketplace.com/zerothread/2062109 <-- Salvage but cheap

http://www.hondamarketplace.com/zerothread/2062262 <--With a GSR no interior

http://www.hondamarketplace.com/zerothread/2063022 <--another cheap salvage

It all depends on what you're looking for. Get a nice (cheap) eg, slightly modded, and put the other money into performance. (and security)

And for someone who is ABOUT to get their driver's liscence, I'd advise modifying your suspension and handling before jumping into more power. Lean how the car handles, then add power. Anyways, I love both the Integra and the Civic, and if I didn't have my EG, i'd have a DC.

tahitian eg
thanks for the links

yeah im almost 16 but i dont know much about engines and all taht stuff and what to do first
i jus tknow waht i want because peopl ehave said its good

im going tos ave for
koni yellows/gc weaksauce deal

then probably get disc braeks on all wheels

this is if i get an eg
its just a lot of work
and i have no experience so i d have to have a mechanic or someone else do it which means more money

my uncle owns his own autobody shop
so he'll let me fix my car for free if i do it myself and paint will be very cheap

its just now that my mom said i can get a newer car it takes a lot of work off my hands but i dont know if its worth it

ok, here's the thing jxhxb. you're going to be 16, or you are 16, whatever.
i know you like hondas, who doesn't. and when you get one you're going to want to modify it, and do all the upgrades a car enthusiast enjoys to do.

so why don't you go with the one that is going to be easier for you.
why buy a eg and drop a motor when the gsr already has the motor you want. save yourself the trouble of doing the motor swap, the brake swap, and so on.

and if can give you a piece of advice, you're 16. be wise with your money. SAVE! SAVE! SAVE! i know cars can be fun and to some of us on here, addicting. but don't get caught up in it. make your money work for you!

Changing suspension isn't that hard. Especially on an EG. Before I started getting into "tuning" Honda's I would have thought that replacing suspension would be something I couldn't handle. But once you've done it, it's pretty much cake. (as long as you have the tools and a place to work on your car) Research some old threads here. You can find some good write ups on just about anything.

If you don't care about the whole "salvage title" thing, I like that Grey EG. I was thinking about picking it up. I had some damage like that on my EG and it cost me about $3k to get it fixed. The shop cut out the damaged piece and welded in a new piece. It was a well known shop, they do very good work, but not cheap. If your uncle owns a body shop, you could have that replaced and painted for less than $1,000 I'm sure. If you're ok with Bondo, it would be even cheaper, but in the long run I'd stay away from bondo.

God damn, 10gz.
I wish I had that much to spend

But.. For 10gs, I wouldn't spend it all on a 00 GSR, not worth it IMO.
You could get a decent 96-97 GSR with decent miles.
Then use the remaining money to mod it

Or 10gs, you can get the 97 CW ITR that's for sale in the forums.
The guy is from Fresno, CA. Username: RyanAutry, I think.
It was like 9gs or something, it's salvage but very well taken care of.

There's alot of beauties in the classifieds, just go take a peak around.
10,000 is alot of money man, 3-4gs more you could get an S2K.
Good luck in your search.

Now, I didn't bother reading much past the first post, but if I were being given the 10K you said you can spend, I'd look all over. Shipping a car across the country cost less the $1000 coast-to-coast. Heres a very nice car for 7K. You could prably ship it for $600-$900 with insurance. PM me if your interested, I know people that can get some good prices on shipping.

i was in the same situation as you are in now.

i chose to buy a beater. rather than a 8k + car

so w/ a budget of 2k i bought a 91 civic std w/ a rebuilt motor for 1500
and slowly modded it while i did part time work for the fam.
always do the work yourself saved me alot of money

a year and half later i have a pretty legit hatch that anyone would be happy to have

imo i wouldnt buy a car w/ a pretty good motor because in time that car is going to feel slow and it takes money to build up a dohc vtec motor..buy a stock hatch, learn how to drive it. upgrade as u go and you will have a better understanding of your car in the end
