Default Element airbag code 15-2 help badly needed (Resolved)

Hi- First post here. I bought a 2006 Honda Element EX a couple of weeks ago. And the airbag light went on a couple of days ago and won’t reset via paper clip routine. Getting code 15-2 (faulty side airbag cutoff circuit) via obd2 - which I am gradually gathering evidence that suggests that this fault has something to do with a weight sensor in the passenger seat that sometimes detects the weight of a phantom child and subsequently shuts off the passenger side airbag.

Does anyone have any idea how to address this problem? This vehicle only has 126k miles on it. And it’s in great shape otherwise (I paid too much for it I think). Now worried the owner sold it because a chronic SRS issue is making it impossible to insure. I would deeply appreciate some help with this before I turn my Element over to service department at the local dealership and burn this issue into a future carfax report.

I’m in Portland OR. Love to get the name of a competent independent mechanic here who can help me with this issue. Airbag issues appear to be a dealership only thing.

Resolved: I’m not a mechanic. However, I did figure out how to erase the airbag fault with my newly purchased Innova 3100rs. Lights out. And stayed out when I restarted the car. So here’s hoping it stays out.

Hi - The details are in this thread. To recap, I didn’t ‘fix’ anything. I cleared the check airbag error with a used Innova 3100RS OBD2 scanner that I bought on eBay for $25. It is not uncommon for this light to go on for no apparent reason. I simply cleared the error from memory with the scanner. And the light has not gone back on since - which suggests to me the appearance of the light was a false alarm. If you don’t have a obd2 meter that can handle airbag errors, then I suggest you ask your mechanic to clear it for you. If it stays off then my best guess you’re set. Good luck!

Do you know if the airbags were replaced under the recall? Tskada airbags were recalled on the Element, both sides.
