Speedo and torque converter not working
1997 2.2 auto
It worked fine for a long time but one day the speedometer stopped working. Just sits at O.
Sometimes it comes on randomly.
I noticed when the Speedo is not working there is an issue with my toque converter as well, causing me to be at a higher rpm and the car does not have the power it should, but it's drivable. I changed the solenoids, same issue.I changed the VSS and it's still the same issue. Any advice will be approved ALOT.
Note: Loss of power. RPMs higher than normal. Bad fuel milage. Odometer not turning. No CEL. No blinking D4. Temp gauge stays at 1/4 and a little over 1/4 on the freeway. No stalling or spudering or shaking. It does shift into all 4 gears. Sometimes when put into "D" and pedal is pressed, there is a lag before the car moves.(Not sure if that last one is related)

Sometimes the speedometer/odometer will fail from age. It's a circuit board issue in the cluster and can be intermittent. Wouldn't cause any of the other issues though.
It's unlikely your torque converter is the issue. It's a very simple device and very uncommon for it to fail. I have not heard of any such cases with these cars in the past 20 years.
Verify the condition of the fluid. If it's black and burnt smelling, do a few drain and fills with Honda Genuine ATF only.
Also verify the condition of the alternator and battery. Make sure it's charging correctly and the battery is healthy. I have seen similar issues before with a weak/dying alternator causing the same issues as the battery voltage dropped too low for a lot of the vehicle systems to tolerate.

"It's a circuit board issue in the cluster and can be intermittent"
When this is the case, can it be corrected by re-soldering the circuit board connections?

Generally, yes.

The cat shifts fine when put in D4 or manually shifting. Today I checked the TV cable and it seems to be working just fine. I checked the fluid and it is dark, not black but still dark. I'm going to change the fluid. So the gauges cluster is the culprit?
Ok so check it out. Today I was wrenching and realized the wire harness on the VSS was messed up so I tried to repair it and made it worse, so I just rigged the wires right onto the VSS no harness. Jumped in the driver seat drove around and it still didn't work. 6 hours later I go for a drive to see if the cruise control works. As soon as the cruise control engaged the Speedo started working, and the trans seemed normal. All the issues went away. Is that weird or what? Why would that happen??
