hello i have a 98 civic lx. last few months i have had a knocking noise and kinda ignored it, not too sure what it is but it’s low pitched and sounds near bottom of the engine. thought it was rod knock or something like that but i noticed that it only happens when not in gear and my clutch is not pressed. if its knocking and i put the clutch in, noise goes away. as soon as i let it back out its back to knocking. it doesn’t knock when in gear and im driving, only when i stop at a red light, put it in neutral and let out the clutch. thinking maybe a trans issue? but idk. let me know what u guys think thanks.

 

Could possibly be the input shaft bearing in the tranny.
They are fairly easy to change, removing the tranny is probably the hardest part of the job.

i wanted to try and get a bit more info before i did anything, sound is the same nothing has changed but i haven’t done anything yet
