Default Can axles have a grinding/ gear skipping noise?

Around 2 months ago my car stopped moving and it was leaking transmission fluid after I changed one axle (would have done the other side but was busy). I lifted the car and realized the axle was knocked out a little and the teeth at the end was almost flattened. And while I was there I decided to overhaul the full front assembly. Now I and almost done and getting my spindle rebuilt and I was wondering if the axle could have created that noise and if the transmission might have blown. But it didn’t leak fluid even after the axles were correctly fitted. Thank you

You probably just popped the axle out, and the grinding you heard was the splines barely engaging between the diff and the axle. Best way to tell is button it back up, take it for a quick drive, and listen. If no more noise, that was your issue.
