Grinding/Vibrating Noise After CV Axle Replacement Both in and Out of Gear (solved)
Ok, to start I have a 1994 civic dx sedan. I just replaced both front cv axles and everything went smooth on the passenger side but i had a hang up on the driver side. After screwing up the splines on the shaft and going and buying a new one it slid in perfect just like the other side. I put everything back together and go to start her up. That is when i heard a horrible grinding/vibration sort of noise. It doesnt matter if it's in neutral or park or in gear it just grinds. transmission and oil levels are both good and clear of metal. What even confuses me more is that if I drive it around 35 miles per hour the sound gets way quieter but at low rpms and high rpms it sounds worst.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did put it on stands and put it in gear, in park, and in neutral and could not locate the exact spot but it sounds like somewhere near the engine/transmission I think. But I don't understand how it could be anything with the axles in the transmission because when the axles are motionless there is still noise, so i'm assuming its some sort of vibration

It sounds like your drive shafts are not plugged into the transmission all the way. Is the transmission leaking any transmission oil where the axles mate with the transmission?

No, there are no leaks. Plus the noise proceeds even when the axles are not moving, whether it be in park or in neutral.

You might want to invest in an inexpensive engine stethoscope, though it really sounds like it's time soon to drop the transmission.

Well I figured it out, somehow the flywheel cover got a little dent in and was causing it to grind. Should be an easy cheap fix thankfully. Thanks for the help

Just realized I must have used the flywheel cover as a pry point not knowing when trying to remove the old axle. So don't pry from there when changing the axles or youll get a real nasty noise thatll scare the **** outta you haha
