Default Need Advice On 2002 CR-V Wiper Arms

Something is wrong with the linkage on my CR-V wiper arms. Sometimes the driver's side wiper hits on the left side of the window trim (thud!) before it goes the other direction and sometimes the passenger side wiper hits the drain cowl (thud!) before it goes the other direction.

When I grab either wiper I can put a little force on it and move both arms together…almost like there is slop or a worn spline somewhere in the mechanism.

Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting? I've had at least a few Hondas over the years but never had a problem with the wipers.

If my description above isn't accurate then I can post a short video.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like a bad linkage bushing

starchland, is that a serviceable part or does the linkage itself need to be replaced?

Have to replace the links. Replace them both and all the rubber seals.

Might be cheaper to buy the whole transmission assembly.

Is this a common problem? Have either of you had this on your own vehicles?

Extremely common. Both of my elements and my wagon wore out the bushings

I attached an exploded view pdf of the wiper linkage assembly. Which parts are the suspected culprits?

It’s already been mentioned Nobody can tell you exactly definitively what it is. Take it apart and see

I agree 100%...was just wondering if you two would give me a head start by telling me which parts "commonly" fail. Specifically which item(s) on the diagram are the "links" that Ryan mentioned above. You two, starchland and Ryan, have been a huge help to me in the past and I appreciate you both! 👍👍

Part 10 and 11 are the links that have the bushings that wear out and are not serviceable. It's nylon cast into the aluminum rod end.

You will want all the rubber seals too. 8 and two of 7.

Usually part 9 for the whole transmission assembly ends up being cheaper and you don't have to mess with rebuilding what you have.

Thank-you both for the feedback, you two have been a huge help not only for this post but for other questions I have posted at honda-tech. I got a quote from the dealer and pricing doesn't look too bad so now I just need to take it apart and inspect the parts.

Past due update: the wiper linkage joints were bad just as described above. I replaced both arms (#10 and #11) as well as the rubber seals (#7 & #8).
