Default Introduction/wiring issue

Howdy folks! New Honda owner here, recently purchased a junky lil white 01 civic dx sedan for a commuter rig. So far it's been a great runner getting me 34 mpg, more than double what my Isuzu gets me.

So my wiring issue... honda has the original speakers installed which kinda suck. Front speakers currently do not produce sound. I've installed speakers a few times so I'm relatively confident there. Put new speakers in the door only to find there's still no sound. Since it was both speakers my mind went to issue with the head unit (which is zip-tied in place in the dash, PO said someone tried to steal it once and busted up its housing. No big deal with me, don't care about looks). Pull back the dash and take a look behind, whoever installed the head unit spiced into the harness. Poorly (see pictures). There are two wires not currently hooked into the head unit, red/black and solid red, which leads me to believe these are wires for the front speakers. But google tells me those are for the illumination. Lacking electrical intellect I am stumped and looking for advice. I could take it to a shop I know and I've complete confidence my guy would be able to solve the issue... but that'd cost money and I like money so I'm reaching out here first. The stereo is pioneer deh s31bt if that matters. 2001 Honda Civic Stereo Wiring Diagram - MODIFIEDLIFE this is where I got my information on which wire is which.

Well I guess all I had to do was make a profile here, problem seemed to solve itself today as my front speakers started working after about a minute of driving! Guess all I had to do was unplug the head unit and plug it back in?
