I just tried to help jump start a guy on the road and this happened! My hood release came off in my hand. I've found lots of videos on how to fix this -if the plastic broke- but that's not the case here, it looks like the cable has been pulled in can anyone share their wisdom/resources on how to fix this?
The infamous pair of plyers in the honda drivers door cubby . Remove the fender and replace the part ( or use the plyers ) . Capt. hindsight sez reach under the plastic handle with 2 fingers and pull straight out instead of an upwards yank .
This fix requires the plastic to have broken, and using pliers to chip away the remaining/broken plastic left on the cable to expose the end. Like I said, the plastic did not break, the end of the cable has no plastic on it and is flush with the metal surrounding.

Imagine this: the fix where you use pliers to cut away some of the plastic from around the cable (and leave a little bit to anchor the new part)? Cut ALL of it away. And the cable gets sucked into the circular base. That's what it's like.
