Default Info on a D to a K20A2 in a 6th gen 98 civic ex coupe

Hi there,

I am looking for information on what I need to swap my d16y8 with a K20A2 or any K series engine. I live in NJ so finding and picking up a K engine from a scrapyard is relatively cheap so I don’t have an issue there. What I need to know is what parts do I need to buy in order to do a successful swap.

power goals: minimum of 600 whp
this car is not my daily, but will be used for track and driving on the street from to time.

the car does have a salvaged title, but I had it checked out and everything is fine with car. Since it is a salvaged title car I am going to keep it forever and I have time to learn and do the swap along with saving the money for parts. I just want to mod this car the best I can so I can get the most fun out of it. All of the work will be done myself.

I have some experience working on cars right now I do have my own small 1 car garage that I do basic maintenance on me and my wife’s Subarus, and I did just put in a new engine into my Subaru Impreza because of bad piston rings. I have not worked in depth on a Honda engine just basic maintenance, but I heard they are an easy engine to work on and to learn about.

so that is a little about me and now what I what I would like to know is:

is there any fabrication that needs to be done?
what suspension upgrades will I need to do?
What parts do I need to buy to do a successful k swap?
do the internals need to be upgraded to handle the amount of WHP i am after?
internal upgrades needed?
forced induction? Will eBay turbo work?
The car is an auto so it will need to be converted to a manual. What kind of transmission would you recommend?
What parts are needed for an auto to manual conversion?
Is it possible to stay with an auto trans for this build, if so what would you reccomend?

any and all advice and suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I can't answer all of your questions but as someone who just finished a boosted k swap here is my 2 cents. 600 hp is unusable. Unless you are on slicks and going for sub 10s, there is never a time where you can use that power. I make 384 to the wheel and can't get traction until 4th gear with an lsd and 215 wide 200A treadwear racing tires. I would look more into what exactly you want the car for and then re-evaluate your desires. 600 hp also means a full engine rebuild which is not too hard but is certainly not cheap.

Check VTEC Academy's Youtube Channel, they have a TON of information on K Swapping.

Hybrid-Racing used to have a really good PDF guide available too, maybe emailt hem.

also Mighty Car Mods just released a video on K-swapping a Civic.

They did almost all off the shelf parts from Hybrid racing, but a lot of what they did can be sub'ed for cheaper options to suit your budget, skills and timeframe.

if you go on hyrid racings website there is a "bundle" option in the storefront that walks you through what you need. it's pretty good actually
