Time-Sert question
Hello, sorry if this has been asked before but I looked and did not find any info on this. 2001 civic lx stripped out timing belt tensioner bolt. Bought the Time- Sert 1012c kit and have the following issue. Following the instructions drilled, counter bore, and tapped no issues, however when putting the insert in it won’t lock in. The insert tool is not going in deep enough, can you get a shorter insert, or can you drill the hole deeper and re-tap or no? Any help would be great just trying to get another 100,000 miles out of the cat. TIA
What style tap is it, for tapping the insert hole? If it’s a plug tap, with a short tapered thread section at the tip, you will need to use a “bottoming” tap, which has full threads right to the end.
Okay, I think that’s a plug style tap. Depending on if you’re planning to use that tap again, you could grind the end down just enough to thread the hole so the insert sits flush or a hair below.
