Hey everyone this is my first post and also first Honda. I recently sold my NA Miata and bought a 1991 base civic hatch, picked it up about five and a half hours away, everything had looked fine and the test drive went great. It drove amazing for about five hours, then out of no where I lost all throttle response. I was going about 75 and began to slow down and pushing the pedal down either gave me a very jumpy response or nothing at all, I put on my hazards and turn the car off letting it roll, after about a minute of rolling downhill, I started the car again and it drove great… for about two minutes, it then began to do that same cycle and I had to limp it home for about twenty five minutes. Once I got home I checked everything out and thought maybe the alternator was overcharging the battery. Next morning I replaced the battery, alternator, and belt, but nothing worked. Thinking it was a spark issue perhaps, replaced the spark plugs and fuel filter. Still nothing, read up on common issues and took a long shot thinking it might be the main relay, pulled it and it looked a little burnt so I replaced that too, still nothing. I am thinking it might be the fuel pump or strainer sock that seems to be a common issue with people getting the wrong one that gets pushed up against the wall of the gas tank because it’s not in the right orientation. Other than it losing all throttle response, if you don’t turn it off after the issue begins, the engine will slowly get worse and worse idling until it almost or completely stalls out. During trouble shooting I opened up the throttle body cover and had my friend hold the pedal down and I poured a bit of gas and it ran great for a couple seconds so I am pretty positive it is a fuel issue. If anyone has had this same issue or any ideas please let me know, this is my daily so i need to hurry and fix it to get back to work.
