Default I need help diagnosing a problem

So basically this all started last night, I was driving and my battery light was flashing then the car entered like a limp mode and lost response to the throttle and didn’t want to go into gears, so then we limped it home, then today limped it to a AutoZone to get to code ran. It wouldn’t read the code reader just kept saying failed. The rpm gauge isn’t working, the temp gauge isn’t working, the limp mode is really rough, I can’t tell what it won’t let me get past but I’m saying around 3-4 grand. On top of that I have a constant flashing green key light. It also was slightly misfiring. It’s a 2004 Honda civic ex 1.7l SOHC Vtec 5 speed. All I’ve really been told is that it might be an ecu or the vtec solenoid. Any input would be great

Try another code reader , if it doesn't connect either then it could be the ecu , but I'm not a tech , Don't drive it messed up , Look under oil fill cap for white goop ,How many miles on the car ? How rusted out is it ? How much do you want to put into a n18 year old car ?
