Default Identifying Wires Under Dash

93 Civic Si

In my never ending quest of finding wiring damage left behind from the original dipshit owner, I'm trying to identify (hopefully) the last few questionable wires. I do have a FSM, but it identifies wires only by code and makes no mention of color.

Black wire, white stripe directly under steering column. Notice that it's been cut in two separate locations and crimped on both ends with a spade connector...

Green/Red wire that runs along driver's A-Pillar and into the headliner. Random, but the only other green/red wire I could find actually comes from the handbrake, which I know I had problems with the handbrake dash indicator in the past but can't imagine it's part of the same wire.

Green wire, white stripe under dash, goes into brake pedal switch.

Black Wire, White Dots coming from radio harness. I'm assuming non-OEM, not sure what it could be for.

Any ideas or insights are welcome.
Pisses me off to no end.... Ya'll have no idea how much absolute effing SPAGHETTI I've already pulled out of this car. As someone explained to me, "Some people who do, shouldn't."

I'm pretty sure your green/red wire that goes up the A pillar on the driver side is the wire to the dome light. It's the most common one tied into for after market alarms. I think that is also the case for the black/white wire in your main ignition loom under the steering column. Can't believe they just spaded it unless that was the shortcut of removing the relay that's typically added right there. If I recall the black/white may be the main ignition ground but I will have to look it up to be sure.

Thank you for the response. And yes, I can confirm that the only aftermarket things on this car when I bought it was an alarm system, radio, and generic fog lights (not even made for a Civic). It's legitimately offensive how poorly he tried to hack these things together.

For now I'll just wrap the green/red wire in some electrical tape, and if I have issues with my dome light I'll know immediately where to look.

For the black/white, would it be enough to clean up the joints and just reconnect it? I'd rather not deloom the whole thing and pull the whole harness, but I want to fix this correctly and ideally lower the list of things I have to worry about with this car. I have no idea about any relay, but if there's more factory bits that are (supposed) to be there, I'd like to fix it correctly.

If anyone has info on the Green/White wire going into the brake pedal switch let me know. Pretty sure that last black one coming out of the radio harness was just some ground they were using for something, I'm sure if I pulled back some of that tape I'd just find another wire they chomped into to tee off of.

You could I suppose. It is a high current wire as you can tell from the gauge of wire. To fix mine I went to the wrecker and just pulled the electrical part of the ignition and redid my loom for that little section. It's not a lot of wire and it's not hard to de-pin from the brown connector in the fuse box. The one time I didn't rewire I soldered the original wire back together but I also bought a 250 watt pistol soldering iron to do the job. This was before I learned crimping has better longevity than solder.

I cut that chomped up green/red wire in the A-Pillar, just going to use butt connectors to get a new connection on it.

I'll see if there are any Civics in salvage yards around me, or even better if I can search and find the parts on eBay. That would actually be ideal, I'll try to find the whole harness.

Edit: Just ordered a replacement ignition harness.

The large gauge black/white wire is the starter signal wire. The spade connectors probably tied into the alarm system. The green/red wire is likely going to your dome light in the headliner. I am not sure what the exact function is of the green/white wire at the brake pedal switch, but if you simply clean up the connection, it should be fine. The black/silver dot/ring wire near the radio IS original and not aftermarket. It should plug into a spade connector under the dash.

That makes sense.

Thanks guys. Time to start cleaning it all up.

1. BLACK/WHITE --- starter kill ------- Just make sure you bridge the B/W wire and it will work. Make sure to use the correct wire size .....at least 14 gauge.
2. GREEN/RED --- domelight/negative door trigger ----- repair that area (it's okay to have a service loop because of the shortened wire length)
3. GREEN/WHITE --- brake switch ----- remove and discard that butt connector. Solder and cover with heatshrink tubing
4. BLACK (w/dots) -- GROUND

You're welcome

Thank you. I've already ordered a replacement harness for the black/white ignition wireset because the main 12V white wire was also extremely chewed up, and I could see a couple others that had random nicks in them as well.
Green/Red has been repaired, and the black wire as JR pointed out is actually OEM I just don't remember exactly where it goes but I'm sure I'll figure it out when I put everything back in.
I don't really think I'll be able to get a soldering iron in to repair the green/white wire. Looks like they weren't even able to get a decent butt crimp on it without it shifting. I may drop the steering column and see if that gives me better access.

I had to fix a similar issue a few weeks ago on a ITR. While installing a new alarm system, I discovered the old alarm right there near the under-dash fuse box. Hack wires everywhere along with the exposed alarm module. More than likely, the "professional" install was done at some car audio shop.

I hate half-*** wiring with a passion....especially butt connectors and T-tap's.

Installing push to start on car but noticing there is a lot of messed up wiring, good thing is it’s all connected to the original car start not sure if it’s an alarm system box reads code alarms I’ll have picture down below what I really need to know is where the black with red wire and the black with white wires go after removing the wiring mess those were the only two wire I could not find where they went i also don’t know where this relay cam from or if I need it in my car or if the outsourced it if anyone can help me out with that

These are the wire left located near the fuse box at the bottom also close to the harness under the trim

This was the code alarm that they terribly installed

These two wire were connected to the remaining wires from the first photo the black with red and the black with white and these green and blue wires look connected to the code alarm box shown under

Green and blue cable connected to this plug right here

And this is the relay that looks important and should be in my car but no longer is maybe the cables went connected to this
