i was driving back home from york today, going around 80 mph. everything was perfect. all of a sudden, when i hit philly, i kept slipping out of 5th gear around 60 mph. i had to hold it down all the way until i got home. what could have happened on the way back? by the way...its not my car. its my friends civic coupe/ ls motor. it couldn't have been my fault right? u think i should pay for this mishap? i only borrowed it for a few hours. please help...
same thing happened to me on a trip once... the seal along the gear casing and bell housing was bad and had a slow leak, causing the fluid level to drop. After a bit of driving and leaking there wasn't enough fluid to keep the synchros oiled and out it went... So fill it up with fluid and tell your bud that he should keep an eye on his tranny to see what is going on.

well..we understand each other clearly...but if it was my fault...i would pay for it... u know? but...i'm hoping, its just a leak. ill check tomorrow. thanks for the replys.. anything else could be wrong? i mean...why all of a sudden it starts acting up?
If the car pops out of 5th only then I'm pretty sure it's got low or no fluid in it.
5th gear is the last gear to get the fluid so if it's low it will pop out - seen in a good number of times.
