I know its a sign of something going bad, it popped out so many times it got aggravating but a day later long driving again it popped out maybe 2 times........first time it happens

What should I do?
What can be done?

The synchro is probably worn. May possibly even have a ring broken from the synchro or something.

Just check the transmission fluid and make sure it's filled. If not. Fill it. Then go from there.

yeah most likely syncro like the person above said.

 

yeah my tranny used to do it when i would run low on fluid cause i had a leak.

 

It is poping out Becuase the fluid is SUPER low... Add some good gear oil.. maybe lucus.. and it will go away... if you dont fix it .. it will eat 5th gear away.,

 

I'm running to chk the fluid...........thanx alot guys , the lil things we forget to chk is what hurts the most..........

 

I had the samething happen to me. Fluid level was fine so I changed it. Still happend everyday going down the highway at about 70mph, POP! I figured the syncro was going bad so I thought about syncromesh but then again no one around here has it. So I went and got some poor white trash syncromesh, 15w 40 deisel motor oil. Its been about 6 months now and it hasn't happend since, my car shifts smoother, and that second gear grind I usually get at high RPM hasn't been around either.

Say what you want, not good for the tranny, the oil's too heavy blah blah blah. I drive 1000miles to work and back every week. if something were to happen it would have by now. screw syncromesh this **** works

 

More than likely your fluid level will be fine.

And to repeat what EFb18b says, "Synchro mesh doesn't always work." I've seen two cars that it did absolutely nothing on.

 

Thanx again guys, the fluid was crazy low, i had an oil change & added fluids.......all gears feel alot smoother, i didn't get to stay in 5th for long b/c Crazy nyc morning traffic but it felt alot better.......

THERE ARE DETENT ***** WITH SPRINGS BEHIND THEM THAT HOLD THE SHIFT RAIL IN PLACE. I THINK THE SYNCHRO HAS ALOT TO DO WITH HOLDING THE TRANNY IN GEAR AS WELL BC MINE IS POPPING OUT OF 5TH AS WELL. IT DIDNT START TIL I MISSED 5TH LIKE CRAZY GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY.
