2000 Civic GX
Hi all,
First post. My son has a 2000 Civic GX with 110,000 miles. Car has been reliable and runs quite well. Last week the water pump started leaking so he had the pump and timing belt replaced at our local garage we've been using for decades. The price of $630.00 seemed reasonable and the work was completed in a few days. My son noticed the car was running poorly, particularly at idle and throughout first gear. He say's it's gotten worse and that the engine light has been going off and on. Having worked on cars many years ago I was wondering if the replacement of the timing belt could be the culprit. Perhaps "one tooth" off top dead center or something. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks. My son just told me he took the car into an Autozone and had them pull the codes. Here's what he got:
P0303 Misfire # 3 cylinder
Secondary DTC's:
P0172 System too rich (bank 1)
P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire detected
P0304 Cylinder 4 misfire detected
P0300 Random misfire detected
P1399 Misfire in any cylinder
Most likely solution:
Adjust valves to OE settings and replace spark plugs.

The sparkplugs were just replaced 5,000 miles ago.
It just seems odd that this would happen right after the water pump/timing belt replacement.
Thanks again.
