Icon5 wideband datalogging and tuning with chipped ECU

Hello guys, new user here.

I've spent a few days reading and searching, found a lot of info on this and other forums however I still have some questions that I have not found answers to even after watching some wideband install videos and so on.

I have a chipped P06 that I converted to a P28 that I will be installing and because my car is a D14A4 (euro market) the closest base map will not be perfect so I will need to do some street tuning. I'm trying to order everything I need so that after I install the OBD1 conversion I don't have much downtime and can tune it straight away.

I have pretty much everything I need or it is already ordered, the only thing I have to take care of is a wideband o2.

I know since I don't have an aftermarket EMS I can't just replace my stock sensor with a wideband since it has a 5V output. I don't plan to run the wideband all the time since it's an NA car and it just has some simple bolt ons, will be putting a vtec head later but that's about it. My question is, can I remove the stock o2 sensor, replace it with the wideband, disable the o2 from Crome and run and tune it in open loop and when I'm done with the tune, replace the original o2 and enable close loop mode? If so, how can I datalog the AFR values from the sensor in Crome, or do I have to tune it by just looking at the gauge? Also if I tune it in open loop and then enable closed loop will that create an issue or change the tune in any way considering it was not tuned in closed loop?

Essentially what I'm interested in is - is it possible to have a chipped stock ECU and record wideband AFR values in the Crome tables to use for tuning and make a closed loop tune, what is the correct way to do this? I would prefer if I didn't have to weld a 2nd bung and use the stock o2 sensor's location but it's not the end of the world if I have to do that.

I've tried searching countless threads but I didn't find anything that made the whole thing click in my head. Thanks in advance for the help.

Replace the stock 02 sensor with a wide band like the Innovate MTXL, Get the wideband wired to the ECU to display live AFR. After its tuned JUST LEAVE IT. your tuner will most likely leave it in Open loop!

Copied from Turbo-LS "Some people have good luck running closed loop but the adjustments for short term and long term compensation are tricky and the tune needs to be close to spot on for the adjustments to not get to crazy and run the engine rich. I've always tuned customers and my own cars open loop and left them that way, never had problems and tunes always stayed spot on. only issues were when tuned in summer they had to come back for minor cold start adjustments when i lived in new England and i did that free of charge.

If your tune is on the money and the vehicle runs good in all weather conditions, dont bother with closed loop IMO"

Thanks for the reply.

I live in a place where we have hot sumers and cold winters and I also sometimes drive the car up mointain roads with considerable elevations. I will also be tuning it myself so I would really prefer to run it in closed loop. My question is how can I wire it to the ECU so it can show AFR values considering the ECU is meant to read a 0-1V output and the WB is 0-5V? And do I disable the stock O2 while tuning or do I have to weld a 2nd bung if I want to run closed loop?

IMO have someone who knows how to tune do the tuning for you.
