We threw a little bit of Lucas in the tank and now the cars having problems starting. We have a 95 civic ex. We've been having some sputtering/hesitation problems when we accelerate so the mechanic said to put some in in the meantime to see if that works we just picked up a fuel filter we haven't replaced it yet but now the car is having problems starting. it could just be the cold weather I don't know. Should have never put that in the tank, we used heat a couple weeks ago and it was starting to run little better and we pushed now lol I figure we need to top off the tank so it can dilute the Lucas ?

 

Find a new mechanic. you need a real diagnosis.

if you followed the directions on the bottle of fuel system fix-in-a-bottle (ie you didn't fill an empty tank with a few gallons of Lucas...), any worsening of drivability or hard starting symptoms are more than likely coincidental.

check engine light is off? if so, the first thing I always check is spark strength. in my experience, cheap ignition components wear quickly on these engines and will cause the hesitation and hard starting you're describing. and honestly, good quality parts are cheap enough if you look in the right places that throwing a new cap, rotor plugs and wires at the thing isn't a bad idea.
