ZC to B20B VTEC Help Wanted
Hey Team, i need some sage advice!
(sorry in advance for the long read)
*if this has already been done (and im sure it has), i'd love to see any write ups/threads to get as much info as i need for the engine swap
I've currently got a semi built B20/B16vtec engine sitting in my garage looking very sad and lonely.
I've been trying to find any info on this as a potential engine swap for me, as Hondas running both DOHC and SOHC VTEC are becoming very high in price and very hard to find.
The current setup I've got is:
- B20B/B16A 'Frankenstein' motor with a solid, un-sprung, clutch
- YS1 LSD gear box
- P72 ECU (allegedly chipped and tuned for the B20/B16 according to the guy i bought it off)
The set up was pulled out of a vtec converted DA5 integra track car (not road legal)
a friend and i rebuilt the motor with plans of putting it back into the DA5 and getting it all road legal..
unfortunately plans and life change and i had to sell the DA5 as a rolling body and kept the running gear with hopes of reliving the dream. which brings me to this point
There's a few, fairly clean, manual ZC(and the odd sohc non vtec) civics floating around. I'm thinking this could be a good option to transplant my running gear into.
Just wanting to get any advice from someone that's done the swap them self.
what will i need to look out for
i understand that i will need to do some re-wiring. am i looking at having to wire in an all new loom or am i able to wiring in the missing sensors (vtec and knock)
will i be able to use my ecu with a obd conversion harness
will i need new driveshafts to suit my new gear box
am i able to use factory mounts to make the swap work
does the speedo cable from the civic link into the YS1 box
will i have to get a new throttle cable to suit the B16 intake
would like to retain power steering and AC. but I'm happy to sacrifice those luxuries in the name of getting my set up on the road again
i will want to get this swap done relatively cleanly as ill eventually get the swap legally certified
at the end of the day, is the swap worth the hassle or am i just better off sucking it up and saving up for something running B16(or D16??) vtec from factory.
if you've gotten this far, thankyou for reading my little novel of vtec helplessness.
id seriously appreciate any advice you can throw my way
would love to have my set up running again and not give up on my dreams and sell it
Thankyou and shout out from New Zealand!
