D15b8 in 98 civic help
So I have a d15b8 in my civic I just picked up. I replaced the head gasket and now won’t start… I made sure my timing is good on cam and crank side. Made sure all grounds are good, plug wires lined up correctly 1342, replaced plugs. I’m getting spark fuel and good compression of the test I did. But when I try to start air keeps coming back out of the throttle body I tried starting fluid and spits flames back out. I’m thinking timing but wondering if y’all could help. I also tested distributor and it’s all good…. Thanks in advance
Cylinder number 1 is closest to the cam gear... and number 4 is closest to the distributor. Set the mechanical timing gear/crank pulley at TDC. Remove the distributor cap and see which position the rotor button is pointed to... place the #1 spark plug on the corresponding location on the cap and then place the remaining plug wires on the cap in the firing order clockwise from where you began with the #1 plug wire. There is a possibility that when your engine is at TDC, your distributor could be mechanically 180' out. This can be solved as well, but then the position of all of the plug wires will need to be changed as well. In short, don't focus on where the service manual says they should go, but place them where they need to go to make the engine run.
