98 accord 2.3L tranny issue
Hey guys, Merry Christmas. I just signed up to this forums bc I am totally stumped. I’ve been reading online for weeks and cannot solve this. It started where i checked my tranny fluid. It was low so I added some non Honda fluid, (I know I know), Next day I experienced slipping from first to second gear and sometimes into third, but only cold. After warm up it’s fine. Ok so I figured I loosened all the varnishes etc from the inside of the case and screwed it up with the new fluids detergents. So I got a used tranny from Jersey originating from Japan. I ordered a new torque converter and got the wrong one so had no choice but to use the one I got with the used tranny due to lack of time and needing to be in work the next day. Ok so I get it in and it has the same exact symptoms! So my first thought is, I used all of the solenoids and sensors from my old tranny, that is the only thing that didn’t change. So I started taking the jap parts and putting them on. Same symptoms. So to be sure, I bought new solenoids from Amazon and WORSE symptoms! With the linear solenoid, it didn’t even shift out of first. The others just same issue and a little worse. So I put all my original solenoids back on and for a little while it acts perfect, nice shifting. Then goes back to its old ways! Please anyone, tell me what is going on here! My thoughts now are it has something to do with the solenoids. I just don’t know what. Maybe the Amazon ones are junk? Lots of bad reviews on them but I summed that up to ppl not realizing the linear needs a special tool for adjustment. Which I do not have either… you’d think they’d just make it a regular 6 sided hex but it’s a 5 sided tool. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for reading.
p.s. It also shifts a little hard into d4 and reverse. Now it makes a clunk sometimes going into reverse. But that was with the jap solenoid. I don’t think it does it now. I am very confused. I bought a rebuild kit on Amazon and plan to rebuild the original. Videos all over YouTube for the baxa! Not too hard. But I feel I will still have the same problem. What are the chances of same issues with a different tranny and tc???!
