So I bought someones project Del Sol which yes I know was probably a bad idea. It has the D16z6 engine. The issue with it is that it barely starts and once it does it heavily bogs down past idle (its barely drivable). When starting, cylinder 4 seems to start firing first, and the rest only fire once its warmed up. He said that It was fine until he did some preventative maintenance, which was a timing belt, fuel filter, fuel pump, throttle body, new belts. and a cold air intake. I checked the timing belt and it looks good, all the markings line up. Checked compression and it maxes out at 180psi on all cylinders when cold. the spark plugs look pretty new, just dirty from how poorly it runs. I makes spark on all 4 cylinders and the distributer looks new, although im not sure how strong the spark is. If anyone knows how to test this lmk. I checked the resistance on the injectors and got 11.5 ohms on cylinders 1-3, and 12.5 on cylinder 4. Are these normal readings, or do you guys think this might be the issue? It does seem to be running rich since removing a vacuum hose at the intake makes it run slightly better.
The only code its throwing is the water temperature sensor (6 flashes when the connector is shorted), which is strange, since I cant see that having anything to do with the current issues. The wires going to the TPS are yellow with a white stripe, green with a white stripe, and red with a blue stripe. The MAF wires are white, green with a white stripe, and yellow with a red stripe. I tried switching them to see if it would change anything though, and the TPS wire wouldn't even reach the MAF, so I doubt their switched. Thanks for the reply, If you have any other ideas on what the issue could be or how to troubleshoot it let me know. Im going home for Christmas for a couple weeks and want to have some ideas for when i get back to it.
Double check the mechanical timing. The Z6 a gear lines up with a pointer, unlike the D15 engines which line two marks on the gear with thr cylinder head surface. You can be a tooth off if you do this wrong.
To give anyone who stumbles upon this forum an answer, it turned out to be the injectors. I cleaned them using the throttle body cleaner spray method and it started right up.
Thank you for coming back in and sharing your solution... too often, the OP never comes back and posts as you did. Then twelve years later, some brand new poster necro bumps the post and asks if the OP ever solved the issue...
