Strange Heater Noise but not blower suggestions?
I have a new to me 2012 civic sedan. There is a noise only when blower is and turned up high (Not noticeable with fan on low side) and on heat. Another words the noise is apparent only when blower is on high and the climate control selector is on heat. If you rotate the temperature from cold to hot the blower noise goes away on cold. Which vent, heater, or defrost selected does not matter loud sound on heat.. Sounds like blower has loud vibration or debris flapping. But strangely only on hot not cold or AC. When car warms to hot and after some time the noise often goes away, but returns again when cold or always first starting. I have dropped blower checked and cleaned out cabin air. That's not issue. Especially if no noise is only there when calling for heat and engine is cold. Will stop if rotated to cold AC or not.
Key item is noise only happens when the temperature *** is rotated to call for heat.
If you rotate it to just cold side noise stops. Same fan same filter same other settings.
Just somehow related to heat vs cooling.
Probably not something I can tackle myself. But something to ask Honda or my other mechanic about.
The blend door has carbon tracks in it that tell the computer where the door is. The tracks wear out and then the computer doesn't know where the blend door is so it flaps looking for position.
Not a super hard job but it is fiddly as it is behind the dash in an uncomfortable position.

Going to call Honda dealer and see what they might get for that first. Then maybe talk to a different mechanic. Pulling dash definitely above my skill level.
Going to be first car from my daughter. , Were as I had no heat in my first car (crappy VW Bug I got for cheap) , also had to make sure I parked on hill to jump start it.
Civic has a remote start and 97K , is in great shape and worth putting few dollars into.

This is why deanships have a bad reputation. I decided to visit closest. Very reluctant to give any real answer. Made it sound as if it depended on where the door was located. Well this is a Honda dealer you should know specifically what job is.
That thier maybe an easy trick or not, (trick 3-4 hundred) but could be as much as 1600 to replace. Cost 150ish just to look first and tell me if its 1600.
Cost should just be if you have to remove the dash. Which seems a given. I guess it depends on location based on what he trying to tell me.
But what 200 hundred dollar parts so were talking 1400.00 in labor, Really, If so super poor design is it really that hard to get dash access.
Have to talk to non dealer mechanic and see what they said. I also called different dealer further away just to check.

Having dismantled a 2012 Civic I can tell you the whole dash comes out with 8 bolts and about 20 minutes. Leaves the HVAC unit attached to the firewall right out in the open for easy access.
I think I have a cooy of the service manual I will check if there is a shortcut.

Not yet, I am pretty sure its the blend door or the blend door motor. Got prices all over the place to fix. First one was starting at 1200. Then I finally found a reputable dealer, Helped me identify parts and assembly and priced job at 500.
I am going to have my regular mechanic take a look at it when I have time to take it too him. He doesn't think its that still thinks it debris or something else. But I am pretty sure its the door or door motor. He will be less than 500 to fix.
Car is for my daughter and she is away at school so no rush till semester is over to get it fixed.
