Please help identify what engine was used in this swap
Hi forum,
May I ask for your help to help identify the engine in this 1988 Honda CRX?
The trim is SI, however, the prior owner swapped out the engine for a D15B, which usually is not the SI motor, and a lesser engine.
I looked up some posts, and was able to get some info, but can't determine in fact what this engine is.
I see a stamp on the block of "D15B" and serial #2817406.
Please advise on the type of engine this is, and what car(s) it may come out of.
From my research, it could be a 1.5L VTEC or Non-VTEC, and could come out of a JDM Civic.
Can anyone advise how to determine exactly what this engine is?
I'm wondering because I have a cracked exhaust manifold, and I want to upgrade it with a 4-2-1 header, and an exhaust.
Do I buy headers and exhaust based on the SI chassis or the 1.5L engine? Are headers interchangeable amongst the Honda CRX SI, DX, and HF models?
Please help.
Thank you.

Headers are interchangeable between all the common SOHC D-series engines.
I have a stock y8 exhaust manifold on my d16a6. Fits perfectly, just needed to open a hole for the dipstick.
I've also used an aftermarket Z6 header on the A6. The O2 sensor is back near the cat but the same sensor wire reaches there fine over the tranny.
