Car won’t start!? Following transmission swap
Hi guys ! I’m new here , and not sure if this is the best way to do ask , but I’m seeking advise on how to start my 2000 Civic dx D16y7 hatchback… I just put in a manual transmission off a 96’ dx hatchback y7 … went from automatic to manual . I changed the ECU with a manual ‘98 junkyard find…I have my 2000 dx harness in there with no other option at the moment … any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
I’m pretty sure I got all my grounds , and if ECU is broken , then only thing is before battery died off I had been attempting to start with original Ecu … wiring specifics is none so far ! Not even the AICV since the throttle body off the manual I took off the 98’ just for the hell of it is identical connections. I am on my way to take connector off of automatic shifter and plug in so the key can leave the ignition … thanks so much for the reply’s and I will totally go see about those possibilities you guys mentioned . Thanks !
I ran my starter wires from plug to interlock switch on clutch pedal. Also struggling to keep battery charged since with my main plug is in the brake lights won’t turn off … I have not yet ran my reverse lights wires to harness since I don’t have an extra 2 prong plug yet…although I was under the impression the back lights would not be able to light up until this .. not the other way around where they won’t turn off ?
If any helpers out there…… dim orange spark happening … starter fuel (dew-40) doing nada….. fuel pump makin moves tho… brake light problem was really just the result of the 98’s junkyard find -brake set having a longer sensor and other fine tuning differences. Not an equal exchange in that category.. I can see the throttle cord could stand to be changed out too… the starter 12 gauge wires(4,5) I have wired unspliced to top clutch sensor .. did not bother wiring cruise control sensor yet since it doesn’t seem necessary to starting engine. Nor is the reverse lights wired… battery problem due to brake light problem, though it’s old and dead I don’t see that as cause.. with cables I’m gettin 14v, 14v to starter, 12-14v at yellow reverse cord on plug, and #4 on plug…. The other plug starter slot #5 is reading 0,as well as everything else on plug… hmmmm I’m not sure what else I could specify other than what I’m not doing with the 3 extra plugs from auto harness… I’m thinking it’s a distributor issue, or the fact I’m using the 2000’s harness altogether rather than a 96’-98’…. Hoping to nab one at the salvage yard tomorrow since they’re so costly on eBay… already spent enough money between the tranny, starter, shift linkage, clutch set , flywheel, and corresponding dealership bolts, etc… totally woulda waited on this one til it was my second vehicle.. 100k on motor or else not attempted.. forced to after lower ball joint bust domino effect drivetrain destruction on auto… any ideas would be a blessing ! Was hoping to drive it to work in the morning ha ha nope thank you 🙏to any daring civic loving soul

you’re right ! I’m not .. what a bafoon .. Idk how much dumber I could be … i must have just plugged the 2000 right back in after removal accidentally and assumed I did it … right out the gate third slot it is missing for 98 ECU
however that didn’t make much change just the cranking sounded cleaner….the DX 2000 has Obd2b with 4 ports I know a lot of them have just three like Obd2a …. I grabbed a harness off a 1996 coupe yesterday, auto though… I’m gonna try swapping that out and see. Thanks!
I finished the wiring of a 96' distributer with my 2000s since someone had already picked through it. I ran a 96' harness through to the 98' ECU. It still wont start.. Do you think its because the ignition control module from 96'-98' is needed? This has the big plug like the OBD2a have, but did not come with ignition control module. Granted this came off an automatic , Im pretty sure the distributers were the same, as long as its a TEC or Hitachi... mine are both TEC so i think its compatable around the board. Also the ECU is a P2E so that tells me it was a DX (good thing)! Anyone out there know about this specifics of OBD2a vs. OBD2b ECU, distributer, harness ..... to an engine of D16y7 - 2000 civic DX.... So yes it has the blue wire for RPMs over by the engine plug... I'm getting no different results from orginal harness/distributer/00' ECU......to original harness/distributer/98' ECU.....to now 96' auto harness/96'distributer/98' ECU .......THANK YOU for considering this MIND-F.
Yes thank you for brainstorming, but that’s been all good there. Dim sparks with cables.. just noticed the coil pack on the salvage yard distributor is very rusty so I swapped it out with good one to see if that works..thank you for replying ..
