Looks like my strut mounts are starting to fail...again
This is the 2nd set of mounts in 3yrs, and I'm hoping to find a stiffer replacement.
I'm sure it's related to our cobblestone streets, they don't play nice with stock strut mounts.
Anyone aware of heavy-duty strut mounts for Elements?

KYB struts...both mounts are aftermarket.
Mechanic assured me that the 2nd set was of better quality, but can't remember the manufacturer.
Do they sell OEM strut-mounts individually?

How do you know these mounts are failing? Thanks.
There is a small yet noticeable gap between the strut top-nut and the strut-mount.
Due to this gap, I see movement when I lift up on the front fender. I believe this movement is also the cause for some noticeable noise while driving.
The strut top-nut is bottomed out on the strut shaft, so unfortunately it can't be tightened any further.
It appears the rubber in my strut-mounts has compressed/collapsed slightly from the cobblestone streets.
The First set of mounts were clearly budget mounts, and failed around 6 months of use. The Second set was of better quality and lasted Just over 2yrs.
Yesterday I asked "Vtec Academy" regarding the quality of OEM mounts (during their Q&A youtube session).
Got the impression that the OEM strut-mounts are designed more for comfort (softer rubber).

Thanks for the feedback.
I have noticed the rubber is deteriorating on my mounts. I also here some clunking from time to time that I have not been able to locate and fix.
I thought you might be able to assist my troubleshooting...

Man that part looks better than my installed part. When you separate it I can see the rubber is messed up. I guess I need some new mounts...Thanks for the info. This actually may fix the clunking I have never been able to locate.
I installed KYB quick-struts in my 2002 CRV and the mounts failed in less than a year just like OP. Same failure. I replaced with with some off Rock Auto... don't remember brand. So far, they've made it a year with no noticeable wear. It's also in how you tighten the mounts if you (or your mechanic) are disassembling the shock-strut assembly, I've seen some techs use an air impact while everything is already together - not the way to go with these.
I couldn't find Moog strut-mounts locally, so I ordered them from RA.
Shipping was only a few dollars more, so I ordered a 2nd set.
After reviewing the quality of these mounts, I think it's going to be awhile before I need to install the 2nd set.
I will reply to this thread when that day comes...
