No Start After Crank Pulley Reinstallation
2001 CR-V EX with 207k miles. Bought it with 202k and put a timing belt kit and other belts on it, new AC pulley, and adjusted the valves. So about 5k on the new belt.
I loaned it to my sister while she was staying in town. She said there was a flapping sound. Then the alternator light came on. Then the idle started surging. She parked it and called me.
When I showed up a few days later, all I noticed was that all the belts were off and the alternator belt was missing. I started it (it ran fine but with alternator light on) and drove it two blocks and then it died. So I towed it home. Once I had it in the light, I could see that the crank pulley had fallen off and was sitting on the splash guard. And the screw was missing. (I originally put it on with anti-seize when I did the belt). The timing belt was visible inside its cover on its crank gear.
So I ordered a new screw and alternator belt. I put it all back together (with loctite), but it won't start. Turns over great, but won't fire. There is gasoline on the spark plugs, so I know it's getting fuel. There is a bright spark at each spark plug, so I know it's getting spark. Compression was 85 psi in all cylinders (throttle closed, oops).
I disconnected the battery to reset the ecu, but still no start.
My first thought was that there was some electronic failure resulting from low voltage (although the battery had 12V and 70% according to my charger). Or maybe I slipped a tooth somehow on the timing belt. Today I am going to pull the valve cover and check the cam marks. Anybody had this happen?

I guess I am talking to myself here. But I figured it out, so here's what happened. I removed the valve cover, and the cams were about a tooth off, maybe more.
So I pulled the belts and timing covers and noticed the timing pulley was no longer keyed to the crankshaft. The key must have fallen out when I was trying to drive it home without an accessory pulley (dumbass). Not sure how I missed that when I put the accessory pulley on in the shop. Now I have to order a key. Hopefully, no valves got bent.
