Too much tension on alternator belt = damaged crank?

Default Too much tension on alternator belt = damaged crank?

Is it possible to damage crank if too much tension on alternator belt? damage as in cracked almost in in 2 pieces, or could this be from something else

yes, if the belt is to tight it will damage the pulley. why, how tight is your belt?

Do you mean the crankshaft, or the crank pulley?

Either way, I can't imagine that sort of catastrophic damage resulting from excessive belt tension. Perhaps a bit of accelerated bearing wear, but not something cracking completely in half.

i never seen a pulley break in half, but i have seen it damage the pulley to where the crank pulley broke off the crank bolt, having to replace the pulley.

it happened once, sure did. a long time ago, on a 95 honda accord ex. i wish not to think about.

yes, atleast that is what my mechanic (god rest is soul) told me (this is when i was learning mechanics the hard way, by breaking crap). i have came a long way since then, a long way.

i also heard stories of timing belts being to tight than snapping off the cam gears.

check the harmonic balancer just inside the crank pulley. does the engine run rough, almost like a mis...
