Anybody out there riding coilovers on stock shocks?
If so, how long and how's the feel. I have ground control coilovers already but no shocks. I'm about to put 17" wheels on my car and wanted to get the wheels on and lower the car at the same time. I'm guessing a 2" drop max all the way around. Do GC's go ok with stock shocks or should I sit on the wheels too till I get shocks? If i should, it's going to be hard knowing I have all these car part sitting in my room, but ay, whatever's best.
why would you blow your stock shocks by using them with coilovers? What if you need them sometime down the road but you cant use them because they are blown and worthless now because you used them with your coilovers? Buy some good shocks for a lowered car. If you cant afford them, then wait. Good things come to those who wait.
It's a good idea to get aftermarket shocks but on my old 93 civic coupe I had ground controls and 17s on stock shock lowered about 2inches and it ran pretty good. I lowered it to maybe 3in one day and it bounced but at around 1-2inches it seem to ride pretty stiff and not bouncy at all.
i drove around with my stock shocks and gc with no problem for about 8 months with i would say a 2.6 inch drop on 15's. It was a nice ride still. But if i could do it again i would have bought some new struts along with the gc's just so i wouldnt have had to waste time in taking apart my suspension twice when i could have only did that job once.
dont worry bout blowing em, it happens to all of us... I have used coilovers on stock and aftermarket struts, if your car is too low, your gonna blow them both.

My brother is riding around on Hyperion coilovers ($115) and blown OEM shocks for about 8 months now. When he slams it, the ride is pretty bad, but at a 1 finger gap drop the ride is VERY comparable with my GC / Bilstein HD set-up that I had on my LX. Note the LX was dropped almost 3" on that set-up though.
I'm about to purchase some $100 coilovers and use with the OEM shocks and just not drop that much. Eventually I will upgrade to the full coilovers if I decide to

I'm sporting Weapon-R* coliovers (not the dual spring) with stock sturts. It's not that bad at all. I'm still on the 13" stockers and it's lowered about 2.75" all around.
I still have no trouble with bouncing, and my struts are still fine, even after 7 months
don't know if the previous owner changed them out or not. but looks stock to me.

If you ordered the stock civic rate GC springs you'll be ok. If you ordered some custom rate springs (anything stiffer) you are going to want to upgrade the shocks at the same time.
If you are worried about having to upgrade the shocks later, don't worry about it. After you do the suspension once the second time is cake.

I'm on stock struts 130k miles with GC's for about 6 months. The ride is fine and it doesn't bounce at all or bottom out. They will blow though but if I can use them for a year then i'm all for it.
I'm on Skunk2's and (119k) stock shocks and have been for about a year now. The ride is not too bad. I'm just waiting for them to blow so i can move on to something better...
