JDM H22 Block. How do I know if it is an open or closed system?
I have a h22a jdm. It has a 96 stamp on the head and block. I'm trying to figure out if it is open or closed deck. I know 97 thru 01 is open. I read that a 97 model car engine is made the previous year 96. Is this true? Is a 96 stamped engine a 97 thru 01 open deck block? Help helpI'm going to build for boost using central support system by cnc were. It has to be open deck for css. Do I need to buy a new block or no?
Your H22A is closed deck. You need to understand that the whole point of "CSS" is to convert an open deck block to a closed deck block to begin with...
Your biggest issue will be the fact that the H series engines use FRM cylinder walls, which greatly limits your option for pistons. Mahle Gold are the only FRM "friendly" pistons I'm aware of for these engines.

It's also used to convert an aluminum frm sleeve to a pressed in iron sleeve or whatever they use that allows you to use other pistons than the mahle gold which supposably don't last long because the coating wears off. You also can't do css with a closed deck
I would have the FRM cylinders replaced with iron liners if you really want it to last. I have seen WAY too many horror stories with Mahle Golds and FRM to ever recommend them.
CNC werx does offer the sleeve replacement service.
The point of CSS is to change the block to a closed deck. Yours being closed deck already means that service is not necessary.

They will do the service on a closed deck? There website made me feel like open deck only. ...I just want to have an iron sleeve replacement so I can use normal pistons

I've never had that particular service done by them personally but I don't see why they wouldn't. E-mail Jeff about it. Tell him what you want. He'll get back to you in a few days usually.
