Default '97 Accord OBD2A Dizzy Works With OBD1 ECU?

I know the CPS is at the harmonic balancer instead of being in the distributor. I'm having to set timing way advanced to get it to run correctly, but only at the top end. It's a turbo charged F23A (swapped) with all '97 sensors and harness running on a jumper to a P72 with an S300. Is there a way to tune around this? Or should I convert it to have an OBD1 distributor?

The CPS (Honda actually called it the CKP) is still in the distributor. The CKF(fluctuation) sensor is the one on the front of the engine. It’s only there for obd2 misfire detection and your (assumed) obd1 P72 doesn’t use it.

You need to check the install of your intake cam and make sure it isn’t retarded a tooth. If they’re aftermarket cams you might make sure they’re properly degreed. If that all checks out, make sure the marks on the crank pulley are good. If that checks out you have a distributor issue.

This is true for Civics and Integras, but not Accords or Preludes. The OP is correct in that only the TDC sensor is found in the OBD-2 style distributors... the CKP and the CYP sensors are found at the crankshaft. There is no CKF on these two applications.

OP, if you use an OBD-1 distributor, you will have to modify the engine harness to bring the two sensor pairs from near the crankshaft back around the engine toward the distributor area and wire in the proper plug to meet the distributor.

Ahh good point. I was up too late last night trolling forums and missed the F23 part

That sounds like fun, thank you! If I can't find a guide, I'll figure it out and make one.
EDIT: Rywire makes an adapter kit to run an OBD1 dizzy on an OBD2 harness, it's meant for a prelude, but basically the same thing, now I just need to find a 92-95 F22 dizzy and I'll be set.

UPDATE: Installed dizzy and rywire kit, put the F23 on a stock H22 timing map, car works wonderfully now, no more weirdness. Next is a full tune, but the basic basemap I put together with some fueling corrections works well for driving around in low boost/low load.
