Default Wont Shift Into 1st Without Going Into Reverse

So a recent problem has started happening with my Integra race car. The transmission is a LS 1st - 5th with GSR final drive and Quaife LSD. The car is a full time race car and is rarely driven on the street. At first in the beginning of the year 1st - 5th was fine as usual but reverse was starting to become a b**** to get into. This progressed and got worse over time. Eventually one day reverse was normal again and everything started working fine so we left it alone. Next thing 1st started giving me a hard time to get into. That progressively got worse just like reverse did. Now it's gotten to the point to where in order to get into first I MUST go into reverse and roll the car back a bit before I can smoothly get into first. After I exit first and move to another gear, I must go back into reverse before entering 1st again. Is this a synchro issue or something else? We did find the shifter seal on the trans was slightly leaking and the fluid got to about half of where it normally would be so we're thinking synchros got chewed up at the last event. Just want to confirm before rebuilding.

Either way the only way you're going to be able to fix it is if you take apart your transmission
