i have a Honda Civic SE edition 2004 4 DR.
1. the SE edition is not mentioned in Amazon or online car parts store when I look for parts. Is it more close to a DX LX or EX?
2. 3rd owner. I can’t unlock the vehicle through the driver side lock cylinder with the key but can lock it once it’s opened. Key turns only one way. Have been always opening the passenger side and reach over to the driver door lock to manually open it for the last 4 years Any suggestions how I can repair?
3. I never got a key remote from the previous owner. Can I get an aftermarket key fob? Does the car need to have an OEM fob issued for aftermarket to work? How can I confirm that? The car does have a central lock
4. Also when I lift the Central locking while being inside the car, the rear driver side door lock doesn’t lock/unlock. All other 3 locks open and close. Have to manually lift and depress to have the rear door open. Any idea what’s causing this? Central lock on the driver door
1. You're in Canada, they have the SE there which is a DX with power locks, etc. SE trim in Canada are not always the same as SE trim in U.S. (if offered) - U.S. did not have SE for that generation Civic.
2. The cause probably is with the driver's door key cylinder. The key cylinder mechanism has a rod that attaches it. -- You could take of the door panel and disconnect the rod from the key cylinder and verify the issue isn't due to the rod and lock/lack assembly binding. This video at the 3:08 mark shows information regarding the cylinder rod.
3. Since the car isn't an EX trim with keyless entry, the SE likely doesn't have keyless entry unless it was added afterwards. Therefore, buying a remote would probably be pointless. (For example, LX trim had power locks, but, no keyless entry unless it was added afterwards.)
4. Rear driver side door power door lock actuator is probably dead or there is a break in the wire. Could always test actuator motor by apply direct power and ground to the actuator terminals.
