JDM d16A block with usdm head swap.
Yes I have searched and searched but can’t find solid info on this topic. Okay here is the deal I have d16A stamped bottom end. Pistons are marked p2p and it was basically bare bottom end other than internals has a spot for a crank sensor not sure if that matters. It came with a new water pump already installed as well as a new oil pump. I used a y8 head gasket and put a y8 head on top because that’s what the bottom end is replacing. Issue is the tension on the timing belt doesn’t seem right but everything lined up timing wise belt slipped on no issue. My question would be is it safe to run the y8 head gasket as well as the y8 timing belt. Anything helps thanks in advance
I don't know the answer to your specific question but, are you sure you tightened the belt properly?
Once the belt is on, you're supposed to
1. loosen (180*) then retighten the tensioning pully bolt.
2. Rotate the engine by hand 5 or six times
3. Loosen (180*) the tensioning bolt
4. Rotate the engine so the cam shaft pulley moves three teeth
5. Tighten the tensioning bolt.

Also helpful information would be how many teeth on the Y8 timing belt you used.
From there we can reduce by 1 tooth at a time pretty easily. You said mechanical timing matched up well so overall you should be okay with the head gasket and head combo depending on the pistons.
I don't know off hand the P2P piston design, is it a dish. The Y8 head gasket is a little thin and if there is quench pads on the pistons, the quench/squish distance maybe a little under optimal which if I remember correctly is something like .035"
One thing you will need, no matter what is a tune so a chipped tunable OBD1 ecu to run it.
