Default 93 SI hatch build over time

First weekend I brought her home in 2018

Paint 1 year later

Replacing all the moldings with OEM

New clips in for roof moldings

Rubber for rims

OEM mud guards

I wanted to put the amber lights in the molding area so I cut out slots on both sides. I first practiced on the old fenders in case I messed up. Will be posting more when I get the chance

Nice!

Was that a factory color for Si? I thought the Si only came in red, black and white? Maybe '93 only?

I was going to ask if those were JDM front fenders, but it sounds like no...

Yes it is a factory color. I believe blue was also a option.

Taking off the valve cover to fix a few things.

Didn’t like the way these generic bolts looked. They turned out to not even be the right ones

Stripped

Primer

Wrinkled

Taking out the trans and replacing the rear main

Ex bolts needed a little cleaning

Thread cleaning kit

Trans all painted up

Rear main

All cleaned up

Pan drying

Honda bond all over because this is the way I do it and I’ve never had a problem. I also used a OEM pan gasket

Threw in a lighter flywheel and stage 1 clutch all from Action

New slave to replace leaking

Old blox shifter

Love the way this shifter feels.

Nice work! I really like that hybrid racing shifter. I bought a k-tuned for my car a couple of years ago that hasn't been installed yet but I wish I would have gotten the hybrid racing.

New evap going in.

Replacing the entire ac system in the car. This is what a 27 year old evap system looks like since older models don’t have a pollen filter, debris just build on the evap.

I ran into a problem after I put in the evap system. I had bought a 95 evap thinking they were all the same. When I went to connect the hi/lo side lines they didn’t fit as they were different size. I didn’t know that the line size had changed for 94/95 . As my car was a 93 this was a problem. I had to convert the rest of the system to 94-95. As the 92-93 models still ran r12 during these years Honda was retrofitting the system to run r134a. They had already made 94 & up models to 134a @ factory

So because of this & OEM ac parts being scarce for these years I went to the local junk yard and grabbed all lines including compressor to run the system. As well a purchasing a new condenser

Yep, consider this retrofit: [DIY] Interior Cabin Air (A/C) Filter retrofit for 5G 92-95 Civic

Nicely done. I like the location of the lights on the fenders. Looks like your signature location now since I haven't seen anybody do that. Yes most def replace the aging a/c system if you're refreshing. I believe they still used r12 around that time.

Thanx . I figure it be a good location since the lights would sit nearly flush with the panel. Yeah the system was old and wouldn’t hold a charge. I wanted to replace everything. Ran into some problems but got it done

Picked up a s2k cluster, bought a conversion harness as well so I didn’t have to cut and splice the stock harness. Temp works/fuel works as well

Swapping out the z6

Before I sold it i compression tested it had 190 all across. Sold it complete for 800. Exactly what I asked for. I resealed ever leak and replaced every oring on this engine. When I first picked up the car I did the oil pump reseal and tbelt.

Picked up a 94 gsr engine complete. Don’t have a truck so the forester came in handy

On a stand

Was a little concerned with the covers being melted

Cleaned up a bit

Yeah I’ve seen them done before ,but always very sloppy, was not wanting to cut and electrical tape each wire for the sole reason if I ever wanted to sell it, it would be a hassle to put it back to stock. Did some research and found a company on IG called TRI , they make custom conversion harness for specific clusters. I tried to reach out to them a while ago but they’ve been inactive.

Removed the caps & this was what I found. Definitely not a sight I wanted to see. Still irritated at myself for for doing a further inspection. I heard the engine run drove it sounded fine to me. I regret not taking my compression tester & pulling the valve cover to look at the top. I knew the burnt timing covers was a little fishy. This engine was deprived of oil , I’m surprised a bearing didn’t spin.

The aluminum was so melted over the head bolts i had to hammer my socket in to get to the bolt

I was very concerned of what the main bearings looked like and it wasn’t good

This is the #1 main bearing .

#1main crank journal. To my surprise it’s wasn’t as bad as I expected . But still very unfortunate. I had planned on rebuilding this engine in the sense of piston rings and possibly crank/rod bearings if needed, very disappointed

The cylinder head is junk... well, actually it is just way too expensive to fix the cam journals compared to buying a good raw casting with caps. If the crank and block are good... you are buildable. The slight scratch that you have pictured on the #1 main journal is only a problem if it is really deep... if you cannot "feel" it with a finger nail, then it is nothing. If it just barely hangs up you nail, then it is possible that a micro-polish will clean it up and keep you in OE Honda bearing specs. What color bearing was in that journal to begin with ?

$1800 later and the block has been bored/honed. New rod/crank journals, crank was polished as well.

Rods have been re conditioned and had them install arp rod bolts

Type R pistons from ITM my machinist recommended me this brand, I was at a point that I wanted a like “new” engine so if I was gonna spend money, I might as well have everything done.

Ktuned also makes an S2k Cluster conversion harness.

Great work with the rebuild, it looks amazing. Sorry about the GSR engine, that's bad luck. Glad you're getting it taken care of.
