96 Honda civic ex Sputters at 4000 Rpm
I have a 96 Honda civic Ex coupe that sputters at 4000 Rpm. It is not a v-tec engine. It shifts fine but when i try to gun it (Ex. If i needed to pass someone) Id have to do it slowly in order to shift. Any idea on what it could be? If more info is needed please ask!
I too would start with ignition items lik sleeper civic said. I the would check fuel pressure to see how far it drops when you throttle to 4k rpm. A bad or going bad map sensor can also be an issue.
I drove it the other day and it went to 5k no problem, but it was still cold when i drove it i think. TOday i drove it and it sputtered at 3.5k/4k Rpm
Not really helping anything if you don't try to fix it. As said above, depending on age of items, spark plug gap could be too large, wires old, cap and rotor might be needed. Check your spark and see if it's weak.
I agree 100%, the problem is im not sure where to start. Ive read a lot of posts and seen a lot of videos, timing, distributor, senors, etc, could be the problem. ive yet to replace anything because i dont want to spend money on guesses, though it seems like thats what ill have to do unless i take it into a mechanic. Trying to narrow it down as much as possible though.

Alright ill start there. (I just read this old post https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-...oblem-2239760/ and it sounds supper similar, I unplugged my TPS and the problem went way, but it was a little high of an idle, it drove fine but stalled at a stop sign, (These small old streets are never busy so i was in the ok) It didnt want to start untill i pluged it in, then it started, but it did stutter at 1k rpm then, but was ok past that.)
I went and got a distributor and a coil from a pick your part, it was a pretty clean looking one, I installed it, let my car run, boom, problem solved, now seems to have more power and the stuttering went away. Ill keep this post updated if anything happens. I appreciate everyone who has helped me tackle this problem.
