Default piggy’s EM1 (re)build

Hey all,

last year I had started a build thread but things went south when I found out my piston rings went on me. Did a leak down test and all cylinders were ranging from 32-45%

I figure what I’ve done since then would deserve a new thread but here’s a link to the old thread for some background of the car

https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced...build-3344992/

So I was just going to have the engine rebuilt with new pistons and rings but at the time it was when lockdowns started happening so I ended up going full rebuild on the car.

here’s what it was last year before the rebuild

I completely stripped the car down, only thing left was the glass and headliner. Then I stripped all the seam sealer and sound-deadening material and started to seam weld the chassis

Primed and painted the bay, interior and undercoated wheel wells and under the car (only have pics of the bay atm) please note this is no show car this was really only done to protect where I had grinded/welded

This brought me to the end of June. Got the engine back at this point so it was almost perfect timing. Started to fab up the new setup.

got a new ramhorn with a 44mm tial instead of the old 38mm (was easier to sell the old and have a new manifold made rather than cut up the old manifold) also had it ceramic coated.

new engine specs:

Head:

decked (now at a total of approximately .025-.030”)
supertech springs/retainers
supertech valves
+0.5mm exhaust valves
gsr cams
bdl cam gears
cams dialed degreed to “true” 0',0'

Block

B18C
LS crank
eagle rods
CP 81.5mm flat top pistons, builder estimates about 10.3:1 after decking and using ls crank/rods
Ported OEM oil pump
king main bearings
acl rod bearings
Victor X IM
SF 70mm TB
Grams 1000cc inj
bdl rail
6an fuel lines

hondata cpr kit
hondata s300v3
SF 3port EBC

Turbo systems

Centreline Ramhorn
tial 44mm wastegate recirculated
7.25psi spring
Garrett GTX3071 Gen2 0.63 a/r
mishimoto j-line intercooler
2.5” I/c piping
turbosmart OPR and filter

3”exhaust
recirculated wg
3” vibrant cat
Apexi WS2 80mm muffler

getting everything back together

ASR brace w/ 24mm swaybar, ktuned lcas, megan rear camber kit SPC toe adjusters, ktuned TA bushings. Skunk2 Pro C coilovers (likely upgraded soon)

Hardrace EM1/CTR lcas, ktuned roll centre adjusters (might go back to oem), insane shafts 500hp axles, hardrace inverted tie rods (may go back to oem)

and finally got it tuned just this passed Monday night.

420.4hp @ 17psi
290.0tq

this is a street/break in tune with the full exhaust and cat installed

gonna be doing some more updates/upgrades in the near future but this is about it for now.

If any of you have any advice/tips for me please feel free to let me know but I’m pretty pleased with the results so far

I love the work you have put in!

Pardon the newb question - how do you put the coils on plugs on the B18?

Thanks!

There’s a couple different companies that make the conversion kits for the b series. Mine is the Hondata CPR kit that works with the s300v3. But AEM makes a kit as well as a couple others

Amazing work man! Most people would never take the time to detail the car’s body and frame like you did..... including myself. Great stuff!

Thanks man! The seam welding was something I wanted to do for a while. Having to rebuild the engine and with all the delays in shipping I figured I would have the time to do it now. Which also presented the opportunity to clean up a lot of things while I was at it.

I've been checking in on your thread too and man I can’t wait to see that 9!!

Hondarulez makes a COP kit that will work with a stock ECU or with chipped/Hondata/Neptune/etc.

I recomend to use hondata with the hondarulez COP kit. I have Hondarulez ECU-Tamer (Emulator) and its not so stable (yet). Anyways the COP kit is awesome, I know Ferenc Mikula (HondaRulez CEO), he put so much effort on that product

Kept wanting to make power. I'm sure it's a fun setup on the street.

It really did. Being a break in tune we didn’t want to start pushing the revs too high and being stock sleeves I’m not too sure how well it will take over 8500rpm. Being gsr cams tho I was a little surprised that it still wanted to keep making power.

It’s definitely fun on the streets and the spool is incredible, but it will be more of a weekend track car. Won’t see the street very much
