Default Checking main caps befor aligne hone

hi . I got a block from a friends but he wasent sure if they where the matching main caps. So i was woundering if theres a way to check the main journals to see if it needs aligne honed.

You would need the proper looooong handle bore gauge and measure the bores in 2-3 spots all the way through the girdle and then measure your crank and see if the number stamps match up to your measurements and honda bearings. That's usually a good sign if it all ends up right. I'm not sure if the mains are perfectly round so I can't say finding a slight out of round is an indicator or not.

I also don't remember if the girdle has the same sort of split number stamp like the rods do. You can sometimes tell when rod caps get mixed as the #2 or #3 etc doesn't line up over the split between the rod and cap.

If there's any doubt at all, have it line honed. It's cheap compared to an engine build and a good idea on old engines in general.
