LS/Vtec Turbo choice for DD
I have had my eye on a particular built long block for years that is owned by a local guy. It's in a car and has just been sitting for years. Well that same guy and I worked out a deal finally. He is going to be paying me with his entire Acura hoard, for wrench time on his other cars (Audi&Mazdas), but I won't get too into that. I have been trying to make a plan on what I can do with this thing, as I have multiple cars I could use it in at this point. If its still happy inside of there, I want to send it very often. Will most likely buy a brand new turbo, and have a nice custom A/C friendly manifold made by a local friend. Honestly the most tempting thing to do at this point is throw that bad boy into my 99' Civic 4dr, which I now daily drive in the summer season.
Here is a list of the parts inside:
B18B1 Golden Eagle Forged Sleeves (0.5mm over)
Crower Rods
JE Forged Pistons (-1.9 Dome)
ACL Race bearings
Polished & Balanced Crank
Cometic LS/Vtec Head Gasket (0.03")
B16A Head Ported & Polished
CTR Cams
Farrea Stainless Valves
Crower Double Springs
Crower Titanium Retainers
AEM Cam Gears
AEM Fuel Rail
AEM FPR
RC Eng. 750cc
Blox Intake Manifold & Billet T/B
Golden Eagle Vtec Conversion Kit
OEM pumps & seals
This should yield just around a 10.2:1 compression ratio depending on valve shape. I believe this entire longblock is capable of seeing 9000rpm frequently under 400wph and low boost levels (under 20psi) without having to worry. Honestly that is a bit more than I would even prefer. Obviously if those cams are somehow still holding the power up to that rpm while tuning, I can decide what to do about the limit then. Personally I would be happy with at least 300whp. Somewhere in between is where I may end up. I just need to choose a turbo that is realistic. Start saving money, because I will have plenty of time!
Plan on using an external wastegate along with Hondata s300v3 w/boost by gear. Whatever spring I use in the gate will be 1st gear. The rest of the gears the boost will be doubled with a 3port solenoid. I think I’ll find a GSR trans, and already have extra LS trans I can snag a 5th gear out of. Absolutely has to maintain solid freeway drivability regardless.
So far on my radar is a couple Garrett snails.
The GT2871R might be the ticket winner. Kind of afraid the GT2860RS (disco potato) might come on too hard to adjust the boost by speed stuff the way I want it. The GT3071R might be a bit too large on the back end, but it might carry power well in those high RPMs. I'm just not sure I'll really need that. Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out if I'd go with .63 or .86 A/R...so yea! Anyone who has experience with similar setup and usage, please chime in. I dunno if the old forum is a shot in the dark, just thought it might be fun to discuss legit options with like minded folk. Thank you for reading.

I mean it's 2020, there are some great things to pick from. Like those Tial stainless v-band turbine housing for the ol' Garrett Turbos. That would be amazing for fitting a 3" downpipes next to A/C compressor.
OR I could just send an eBay turbo with a random T3 manifold...HAH
