Default Scarebird Rear Disc Conversion - Long-Term Good Option?

Hey all,

I see plenty of old posts about people installing and liking this kit (https://scarebird.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=116) on various years of Civics with good results. Anyone had it a long time and still happy with it? I don't want to swap out trailing arms, and it seems like the drum trailing arms are a little lighter anyways. Fastbrakes makes a competing "all in one go" kit as well, but their price is a lil rich for my blood. It seems like I could get the Scarebird kit and everything else needed (including a 15/16" master cylinder and 40/40 prop valve) for around $500. The exact parts aren't all lined up in one tidy package anywhere I've seen, but seem clear enough (ie. Calipers/rotors/lines/cables for a DC2 Teg)

is this a good setup? Looks well built and well liked, one upon a time at least, and it's still for sale for the same great price. *shrug*

--Matt

What you're asking for exists. That's the rear trailing arm swap from an Integra/Del Sol. It's OEM, fits perfectly and there's no messing around with random aftermarket configurations. The swap is just as easy, if not easier, than retrofit kits. Find one with calipers that are in good shape and there's very little work you'll need to do. There are millions of these sets in junkyards and can usually be had for under 100-200 bucks.

sayin...find one and rebuild it with new bushings, bearings, rotor and calipers. Be done with.

My trailing arms are totally clean, rust free, and have fresh bushings. I haven't found any disc RTAs in comparable shape.

As long as it's just surface rust, you can either blast or sand off any dirt and surface rust, paint the part and install new bushings. Done.

I was at a time attack event a couple weeks ago and one of the guys has the scarebird conversion twice he had to pit early and tighten the backing plates, the whole assembly was coming loose. Maybe good for street but not for track

That's exactly the type of info I'm looking for. I'm building this car specifically for AutoX and track use (plus summer driving during times when I'm willing to live without AC, since it has none), so that's really relevant ino.

I wonder if Fastbrakes' kit has the same sort of issues...

For the cost associated I would just source disc brake trailing arms, either setup you will be potentially buying new calipers, rotors, pads and trailing arm bushings. Not really worth the upfront cost saving's of a kit
