Default Turn signal problems. 93 del sol

Hello all! First post here! So I’ve recently picked up a 93 f20b swapped del sol. I love driving the thing, fun little daily in the making. As you know a major part of driving would be making sure your turn signals work on both sides, which for me isn’t the case. My passenger side front and rear signals both work, but my driver side front and rears don’t. First thing I did was change the bulbs hoping it’d be a simple and easy fix, which with my luck wasn’t . Whenever I flip the turn signal arm to the right, the right indicator light on the gauge cluster blinks green and the lights function as they’re supposed to. Whenever I flip them to the left, no indicator light, still you can hear the relay clicking but no lights! This one really has me stumped. I checked the turn signal switch itself for continuity between the pins when flipping it left and right, and they were fine so I know it’s not the switch itself. I checked all the fuses, none were blown. I’m really stumped on this one, any help would be appreciated

Same problem when you turn on the hazard lights?

yessir, it doesn’t flash the passenger side. I swapped the bulbs and bulbs housings From the pass side to driver side and that didn’t work either

Another quick note, my fuse box doesn’t have a turn signal flasher in it. I popped one in at an auto parts store and that didn’t fix the problem either.

The right turn signal blinks in the absence of a relay, suggesting that the dash fuse box may be bad and that a previous owner installed a jerry-rigged relay by splicing it into the turn signal wires under the dash.

Look for a relay that doesn't seem to belong under the dash. If found, post pictures of it and the attached wires.

thats what I found really odd as well, how would the passenger side work without that relay but the drivers side wouldn’t? I’ll have to poke around under it in a bit, it really confuses me. Last time I checked under there, I saw the turn signal relay (big one separate from the fuse box) and a long black one sticking out of the fuse box.

I might check when I get home tonight, possibly tomorrow morning.

Another silly note, but the pass side hyper flashes. I think.

The black box that you circled -- Is it loose? Can you see how it's attached in that spot and any wires attached to it?

Wait until you locate the jerry-rigged relay before you worry about the hyper blinking.

It looks like the left mounting stud and nut for the dash fuse box is missing.

I’ll have to check out that black box in the morning. Thanks for the help so far!

You should be able to locate the relay by turning on the hazard lights and following the clicking noise.

So that little box that I circled? Honestly no idea what it is. I don’t think it has anything to do with the turn signals tho, I could be wrong. The clicking is coming from this black box right here, which I believe is the actual turn signal relay itself.

The big black box on the left labeled MITSUBA flasher FR-3501

The black box is the turn signal/hazard relay.

You and Tech8 have solved the Del Sol turn signal relay mystery.

The turn signal relay connects to three wires: Blk (ground), Grn/Wht (power), Grn/Red (output).

The information you provided demonstrates the Blk and Grn/Wht wires are fine.

The Grn/Red output wire supplies voltage to the turn signal switch, which diverts the voltage either to the right turn signals (Grn/Yel wire) or the left turn signals (Grn/Blu wire).

Your information is most consistent with either loss of Grn/Blu wire contacts in a connector or a Grn/Blu wire break somewhere between the turn signal switch and the point where the Grn/Blu wire splits to the front and rear left turn signals.

Tech8 can tell you the locations of possible connectors to check along this section of the Grn/Blu wire.

On a separate note fyi: The previously circled relay in the under-dash fuse box is the power window relay.

If visual inspection or additional information from tech8 does not allow you to pinpoint the open circuit in the Grn/Blu wire, then consider purchasing this nifty device:

The following is the circuit diagram with some of the connectors where the Grn/Blu wire runs through.

Fascinating.

The circuit for the 93 Del Sol turn signals/hazard lights is not identical to the 5th generation Civic.

The circuit organization and the relays differ. The Civic relay is simple, and it controls both the right and left turn signals. In contrast, the Del Sol relay contains two separate relays that individually control the right or left turn signal.

Due to these differences, I must modify my previous diagnosis. I now conclude that the problem is caused either by a bad relay or by a broken Grn/Blu wire.

To determine whether the problem lies with the relay or the Grn/Blu wire, you need to unplug the relay and do a test on two of the relay connector pins.

1) In the unplugged relay connector, use a wire or paper clip to connect pin 4 (Grn/Blu wire) to pin 5 (Red/Blu wire).
2) Press the hazard light switch on.
3) Do the left front and left rear turn signal lights now turn on without blinking? If, so replacing the relay should solve the problem.

Thanks for the help so far, I’ll have to test it when I get the chance, work switched to 7 days a week for a bit so I don’t have much free time.

So I have fixed the issue. I’ve got a parts guy who parts out del sols and he sold me a turn signal relay for 25$ shipping and all. Killer deal and I was willing to take the risk if it was bad, I mean 25$ was a steal. Plugged it in and my left turn signals now flash! Very happy with the fix, now I won’t have to worry about getting pulled over at night from cops not picking up on what sticking my arm out my window means.

with that fixed, my left running light works, but my right does not. I have a feeling that’s causing my hyper flashing on the right side. I wiggled it and it lit up for a split second, but I couldn’t get it to do it again. I’ll have to try cleaning the contacts and see if it fixes it.

Thanks everyone for the helpful diagrams and info, it’s really appreciated!

Our turn signal works when it wants to help. Also the horn just stopped working not the fuses. We have a 1993 Honda Civic Del Sol help for we have no clue as to what is going on here.

Ground G401 is a common ground that is used by both the turn signal circuit and the horn circuit. It is located behind the driver's side kick panel.

Check that the ground wires are not broken there. Then remove the bolt holding G401 and sand the area to bare metal and reattach ground G401. See if that works.
