Power Steering failure EPS reset noise
My car's been down for a bit, and upon first startup, i noticed that the EPS light was on, and that i had no power steering. I initially assumed worst case scenario, and purchased a new EPS control module, which resulted in the exact same circumstances. I then read up on resetting the module, which i figured was at least worth a try, so i followed the procedure of turn the wheels to straight, short the scs module 4 to 9, flip the ignition enough to turn the wheel, turn it left 45deg, flip the ignition, wait for the EPS light to go off, turn it straight and wait for it to turn on, left off, straight blink twice and then blink 3 times. After it blinked twice, it blinked 3 times accompanied by a very loud knocking sound from the EPS module. this knocking sound only quit when i flipped the ignition off and then back on. yes, i'm certain it was from the EPS module. Upon flipping the ignition back on, the EPS light was back on, and upon starting the car, the power steering was still not functional. This happened with both the old and the new EPS modules. I'm working on a 2001 with an AEM v1 ecu and an aftermarket module that provides stock engine temp readout. the tune and the temp readout are fine. not sure if that's relevant, but figured i'd add it since this seems like a possible wiring issue. anyway, i'd appreciate any constructive input. thanks.
i shorted the SCS to get the blink codes, but it's throwing something weird. i'm getting 3 short blinks in succession, but the spacing in between the blinks is about a second. from what i'm seeing, the blinks should be in very short succession.
i brought it by autozone, and the obd2 reader errored out trying to read the codes, and then i brought it to discount and the reader stated that it could not connect to the obd2 module or something along those lines. do i likely have a wire chewed somewhere?
3 long blinks is 30. Code 30 is a real code. Says "A problem with the sub-microcomputer."
Clear DTC start and run engine for 10 seconds, check to see if EPS light comes on. If the light returns check for loose connections.
Do you know for certain the second EPS controller you have is good? The only fix for code 30 is replacing the controller.

wouldn't a long blink be a blink where it stays on for a second, then goes off? what i'm seeing is a blink where it comes on for a short period of time, but stays off for a second. that said, how do i clear the DTC? keep in mind that i can't communicate with my ECU via obd2..maybe something with the aem ecu.
Way easier to post pictures. Also if you have someone with an Autel MS906 or MS908 they will be able to talk to the EPS and ABS modules even with the AEM. I have had a really good experience with my 906 and has been critical in my engine swaps and still being able to talk to mismatched modules.
