Icon3 Extremely heavy steering; just swapped to manual rack

I bought a 92 civic 2 weeks ago with a bad power steering rack. Well over the past week in my off time I've swapped it for a manual rack. That went all fine and dandy (mostly).

Problem is that now the steering is super hard to turn either way and kinda makes a clunking noise when I turn the wheel just a little bit. When turning constantly it doesn't make this noise and is slightly easier to turn, I'm baffled as to why its doing this. It's also not doing this at just low speeds, its super hard to turn at any speed at all.

Any insight at all?

^lol. Actually, mine does steer pretty heavy as well.. Though mine didnt have power steering, still wasn't too hard to steer. once i get on speed a bit(15-20 KM/h) it doesnt cost me real power anymore.. So not sure about that.

Also mine makes a little bit of a grinding noise when i turn it.. But no harm is done. So don't know if this info helps you, but i don't consider it weird or anything.

Clean and apply grease on the bushing and adjustment mechanism. Check steering column cross joints and bushing.

Let me rephrase this, it feels like wrestling a bear at any speed!

Doesn't matter, pretty sure I connected the joint under the dash upside down so its just not at a good angle to turn. If that doesn't solve it does anyone wanna swap power rack for a manual? Lol

Lift the tires and turn the steering wheel to see where the stiffness is coming from. Check tightness of adjustment mechanism.

There is an adjustment mechanism? I'll jack it up tomorrow and see what I find out.

Its on the drivers side of the rack just left of the steering column. Clean and grease that part. Adjust the spring so that the steering is as soft as possible but no play in the rod.
