Default Missing Metal VIN Tag On Tranny

In Wa State and plan on selling my 99 SI that I've have for almost 15 years. Around 10 years ago I had a local mechanic replace the clutch in my car and he ended up doing more work after he noticed some other problems. He ended up replacing the clutch, bad motor mounts which he gave to me (still have) and also I think the tranny had an issue and think he replaced that. While cleaning the engine I noticed the green VIN tag is gone/removed and was wondering if that will cause any issue when selling? My car has the VIN on dash and the white VIN stickers all over the car that match too. Also the tranny has a white sticker that has a code on it.

I don't believe the VIN was put onto the transmissions of the 92-00 era. I know they aren't on the 02-95 and thought it was the same on the D series 96-00.

I don't think it will be an issue. I know people sell cars in these situations all the time. I would like to think that the shop that did the work has a reputable background and no known funny business.

I know it's been a while but do you still have communication with the shop that did your work or some sort of receipts that show the work that was completed? Might be a reach, but it may help out.

Thanks. The guy that did it is no longer in business, he retired but was in his 50's at the time and a well known mechanic locally for a long time. If I have any receipts I have no idea where they'd be. :-/ Trying to think back I think he said something about getting or finding one at a scrap yard as a replacement but cannot remember 100% cause it was so long ago. As far as funny stuff this guy didn't in any way seem to be that type.

There are two rivet's on the block and can see a small amount of the green tag under the rivet like it was pried off. Is this something they do if you get one from a salvage yard?

There is a vin on a em1 transmission and they don’t fall off . Look up what happens with aluminum and steel when corrosion happens. The fasteners will be frozen to the aluminum. Transmission should be nasty try rotted to let go.

So if he got a replacement from like a junk/scrap yard they don't remove them? This dude was a well known local businessman and near 60 years old, I doubt he's buying hot civic parts and installing them.

Also when I purchased my car I actually purchased a warranty with it for things like power train etc. (2 year if I remember correctly) and I actually found the paperwork for the warranty company just now filed away. I remember him getting all the work covered under the warranty including the tyranny being replaced so I guess I can try contacting the warranty place since they're still in business and get a copy of the receipt if available.

It won't cause any issues. The vehicle is 21 years old now. Car will sell no problem and the new owner will have zero issue getting it registered if you have a title and bill of sale to sign over to them. Don't bring up the VIN tag it is a non issue.

WA is no longer doing inspections or emissions testing as of Jan 2020.

Removing the vin is illegal and you should know the only reason someone would do so.
