[98 Honda Accord V6] Acceleration Issues
So, I'm trying to figure out what exactly is happening with my car. Probably pretty obvious.
Either way, so when I'm driving it doesn't really accelerate much. Things that I notice occurring at different times:
I know there is some oil leaking, but I can't tell from where for the life of me. Seems to be on the right hand side of the car somewhere in the area of the oil filter. It seems like it is coming from above, but I can't see. My oil levels don't seem to be an issue, but it is pretty wet. They said my valve covers were leaking, but I just replaced those and the oil isn't coming from that high up.
Just looking for some direction here, not sure what to look for.

- Stuttering when going from a stop.
- When laying on the pedal will not exceed 2500 RPM
- Stuttering when make a turn from a stop
- Erratic VTEC engagement (sometimes it kicks in, sometimes it doesn't)
- Extremely hot engine (haven't checked this over the last week or so)

Some thoughts:
I would check the VTEC solenoid, it could be a leak of the gasket, it could be clogged, it could be bad. Take a look at this to get some idea where it should be (I think this is close enough to give you the idea even if not the same year vehicle):
With the cat cut out, you'll most likely see an error from that, but at least you know it's not plugged any longer
With regard to leaks, it could be coming from the distributor o-ring, that's common. a sensor could leak, and of course the heads could be leaking (although I don't usually hear about that leaking very often).
Will the car exceed 2500rpm while sitting in park?

Ya, I can get the RPMs up. When I start going usually it'll bog down and the revs will jump without acceleration. I usually just slap into neutral real quick then back and it'll start going. Allbeit when that happens sometimes the revs will sit around the 2k mark. Just got a new distributor cause I was dumb and broke mine.
OK, so it also sounds like there could be something with the transmission if it revs when in Park above 2500 but not in gear or only when you do that neutral back and forth.
With that in mind, I would go over the transmission.
1 - check fluid level and color
2 - clean solenoids and check for debris
3 - Check solenoids to see if they are working.
Hopefully this helps you with how to do that.

I might be wrong about the 2500 in park thing. I kinda missed that part when I read your last post. I will look into it when I head out of work today though. It is still likely that there is a problem with the transmission, so I will look into that as well
Ya, no, I was right. It revs up. It will rev up when I start reaching higher speeds usually fine. This this notable bog down though at lower speeds. I'll hit the gas and it'll like pause then start going faster, feels almost what I assume turbo lag would be like. What usually happens when I start going forward is that the revs will go up to 3-4k, but the car won't accelerate. You just hear the air intake funneling in more air, but nothing. That's when I slap it into neutral and back. Then it sits around 2k while slowly acclerating.
can you run a scanner to look at things like injectors, O2 readings, airflow while driving?
But check back after checking those solenoids and fluid levels and color. I would have expected an error to code under these cirumstances, whether thats a CEL or the D4 bliking light.
