Default P1381 CMP Sensor A Intermittent Interruption

Hello, I have a 2001 Prelude with the H22A4 and I am getting a check engine light code P1381 - CMP Sensor A Intermittent Interruption and my engine will not go above 3k rpms. Does anyone know the solution to this?

I have tried googling it and searching through some threads here on the site, but with little success of explaining the problem. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

@TimiK which sensor is this? I've seen sensors on the crank shaft and sensors in the distributor.

Also, check grounds in general? or is there a specific ground you are referring to?

thanks.

I'm pretty sure the code is "P1381–Cylinder Position (CYP) Sensor Intermediate Interruption." Not "CMP", CMP refers to a camshaft position sensor which the H22A4 does not have. It only has TDC, CKP & CYP sensors.
TDC: Top Dead Center
CKP: Crankshaft Position
CYP: Cylinder Position

The sensor you want to look at is the CYP sensor, it is located inside/on the distributor. See below image.

You could get wiring diagrams and a multimeter and test the sensor. It could be faulty wiring or the sensor could be bad.
I'm not positive but I think the circled part (#7) in this illustration might be the part your looking for.
It's Part #: 06300-P2E-305 and its called "Ignition Kit"
Like I said, im not sure if the sensor is part of this or not, you may need a whole new distributor but I don't think so.

P1381 may be due to wiring, connection, CYP sensor, or ECU.

If the CYP sensor is faulty, the distributor or distributor housing is replaced. The CYP sensor is part of the distributor housing; the sensor generally is not replaceable.

I agree with what they said ^^^^ Always check your wiring. Your lude is newer than mine, 87 Si, but I had a similar issue not too long ago. I ended up using a multimeter to test from the wires at the distributor ( CYP, TDC, CKP) to the ECU harness. You should have only CYP and TDC as your CKP is near your crank behind the timing belt. Both sensors will have a 5v reference and a return wire. In my case I was getting very high resistance which is bad. Actually I had a dead short in the CYP all together. I found that the harness containing all of these was ran below the distributor and under a coolant hose. Lots of heat and oil from a neglected valve cover gasket ate away at the loom and insulation on the wires. I purchased 16-18 awg shielded wiring and ran all new ones straight to the ECU and away from the problem areas. Well anyways just wanted to throw in my story and see if maybe it can help you or someone else.
A multimeter is an amazing tool and cheap!
